Help with a friend who is a trekkie Borg fanatic.
I have a trekkie Borg fanatic friend and he is constintly saying stuff about the borg that sound like a bunch of crap so I thought some written things can help him realize some things and help me. He has been saying stuff and since I do not know a lot about the Borg I thought I could ask some questions.
1. Borg's origins? My friend says that the origins were from another galaxy and that they control another galaxy. So does anybody know or have an idea where they cam from?
2. Millions of Cubes? Do they have hundreds of thousand or thousadns or what? I am hesitant to believe the millions, so can someone with more Borg intelligence help me out with this.
3. Phase torpedoes? What are they if they are even a real torp and does the borg have them? Also would they be useful in a fight against some SW ships liek and ISD or Trade Fed Battleship?
4. Are the Borg able to assimilate droids? Since they had very little luck with Data would they be able to assimilate something like C3PO or a Trade Fed Destroyer? Also how well could the Borg assimilate an ISD computers and a Trade Feds (assuming that they can get aboard these ships)?
5. No matter what, the Borg need a frequancy to adapt to right? So turbolasers and lasers could not be adapted to?
Thanks for any help on these things. Also since some Star Wars stuff is in here then I though to put it in SW and ST. If it belongs in ST then please move it.

The origins are unknown, but it is clearly bullshit what he says. But normal transwarp needs weeks for crossing the galaxy. Hub-transwarp they only discovered in this galaxy, and it is also limited. They coudn't be extra-galactic.1. Borg's origins? My friend says that the origins were from another galaxy and that they control another galaxy. Also, in "Dragon's teeth" it is clearly stated, that 900 years ago, the Borg only rueled some lone systems, and were considered primitive and not a threat.
The adaption is only shield-opimization. It only works because all have the crde Energy-weapon concept in that galaxy. A SW laser or turbolaser wurd ignore that, overwhelm the shield with it's brute power, and shred the Borg to pieces.5. No matter what, the Borg need a frequancy to adapt to right? So turbolasers and lasers could not be adapted to?
Re: Help with a friend who is a trekkie Borg fanatic.
It was never established to the best of my knowledge, but the idea that the Borg control another galaxy is stupid IMO, given the speeds for Transwarp, and the fact that the Borg never summoned the massive fleets that would doubtless be required to control another galaxy.Techno_Union wrote:I have a trekkie Borg fanatic friend and he is constintly saying stuff about the borg that sound like a bunch of crap so I thought some written things can help him realize some things and help me. I don't think we got an exact count on Borg numbers. There was a comment from Janeway in "Scorpion", but that didn't establish exact cube numbers, IIRC.2. Millions of Cubes? Do they have hundreds of thousand or thousadns or what? I am hesitant to believe the millions, so can someone with more Borg intelligence help me out with this.
Ask him where he found out about their existance, then get him to show you. You can probably call bullshit on this one.3. Phase torpedoes? What are they if they are even a real torp and does the borg have them? Also would they be useful in a fight against some SW ships liek and ISD or Trade Fed Battleship?
As I understand it, it would be like trying to adapt a Radeon 9800 to work in an 8086-based system. The Borg simply don't have the knowledge or technology level to get SW computers to work.4. Are the Borg able to assimilate droids? Since they had very little luck with Data would they be able to assimilate something like C3PO or a Trade Fed Destroyer? Also how well could the Borg assimilate an ISD computers and a Trade Feds (assuming that they can get aboard these ships)?
I don't think they have a frequency, but that's irrelevant. The raw power output is so high that the Borg would be destroyed before they could adapt. Even if they did adapt, I don't think they'd be able to disperse it adequately.5. No matter what, the Borg need a frequancy to adapt to right? So turbolasers and lasers could not be adapted to?
You're welcome. Thanks for any help on these things. Also since some Star Wars stuff is in here then I though to put it in SW and ST. If it belongs in ST then please move it.

There is no evidence to suggest that the Borg originate in another galaxy. They have a fairly extensive territory in the Delta Quadrant, which seems to be where they originate.Techno_Union wrote:1. Thousands is more likely. They have thousands of planets, so if they had millions of cubes, we'd expect to see thousands of them orbiting any given Borg planet and formations of hundreds of cubes moving through the galaxy. We've never seen more than about a dozen in any one place, even defending Borg planets during wartime.Techno_Union wrote:2. Millions of Cubes? Do they have hundreds of thousand or thousadns or what? "Trans-Phasic" torpedoes are some kind of weapon from the Federation future which showed up in VOY "Endgame". They were capable of destroying Borg cubes pretty easily. There is no indication of their yield or how they operate, nor is there any indication that the Borg possess the technology themselves.Techno_Union wrote:3. Phase torpedoes? There is no reason to think that the Borg would be able to assimilate any Imperial computer, be it a droid or a ship's computer. It would be like trying to hack a modern Unix mainframe with an old Commodore 64. Actually, it would be worse since the hardware and software completely alien origins. Millenia of cultural exchange have resulted in a common technology base in the Trek galaxy which makes assimilation fairly easy for the Borg, but they have never shown the ability to assimilate anything totally alien to the Trek technology base. Lt. Commander Data and Species 8472 are classic examples.Techno_Union wrote:4. Are the Borg able to assimilate droids? The ability to adapt to Federation phasers seems to stem from the fact that that phasers, disruptors, and other trek weapons cause technobabble chain reactions that disintegrate matter, resulting in damage that's disproportionate to the energy content of the beam. They would not be all that useful against a weapon that does damage by direct energy transfer.Techno_Union wrote:5. No matter what, the Borg need a frequancy to adapt to right?
