Bush Tightens Rules on Travel to Cuba

Post by JME2 »

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u ... /us_cuba_1
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) tightened U.S. restrictions on travel to Cuba on Thursday, saying that Fidel Castro (news - web sites)'s government has taken steps to destabilize relations with the United States over the past year.

Bush signed an order to expand the government's authority to prevent the unauthorized departure of ships from U.S. waters bound for Cuba. He said U.S. authorities would be empowered to inspect any vessel in the territorial waters of the United States and take other steps if necessary.
Of course, rather than strengthen OUR relationship with Cuba, Dubya is trying to get the vote of every Cuban in Florida.

The usual Cuba-bashing.

I really wonder what the US wants to achive with that? I think the bashing of Cuba had become a dogma in US-politics, that must be followed, regardless what time it is.

Isn't it ironic that by bashing and trying to isolate Cuba, the United States government(and its Cuban-American voters) are actually giving Castro not only excuses to crack down but propaganda material for his usual "Blame U.S." excuses?

This has nothing to do with Cuba, that is a pure election thing.

Of course, doing so, he's alienating a huge business base that would just love the ripe markets that Cuba represents...

I was referring mainly to the Cuban-Americans who scream everytime relations with Cuba begin to thaw.

Based on the margin in the last election anything helps. But they are a large and growing group. And when they back you , they back you. Oddly, all you have to say is I want to get rid of Castro and won't let up a bit.

It's funny. They want to help Cuba. But they are so focused on Castro that they'd rather keep us and imports out. And these things would be a vital part of ending Castro. Fill that country with tourist, money, and Americana. The French and other countries fear it and its power. Imainge Cubans tasting the fresh air of capitalism and free ideas? Instead they are isolated and suffering, and Castro gets us to use an excuse and as a tool to keep support. The ones that love ya always first you the most.

Ah yes. Our love of threes. Have to have the slots filled. BUt how bad up for enemies are you when Cuba is among hte most wanted? I mean, why don't we just pick on Belize while we're at it? And there's always something shifty about Antarctica.

Ah, Americans. With a gun in each hand their ready to shoot in three directions at once.

Three is a nice number. It's the minimum number of sides for any 2-D polygon, it's a good number of people for a sexual orgy and most evil things come in threes like Nazi Germany, Italy and Japan. Oh, and the Big 3 sci-fi at SB.com was SW, ST and B5 based on fanbase.

Well, they're in Florida, and we all know what happened in Florida last election, so certainly the GOP wants to do whatever it can to ensure it can claim that state.
