Quick food question
Okay, I'm sitting here, alone, and I decided to cook a pot pie. The directions say something about putting the thing on a cookie sheet before plopping in the oven. I don't have anything labeled "cookie sheet" in my house, what is safe to use?
(never leave a 14-year-old alone with stuff that is more in-depth than microwaving)
EDIT: if it means anything, I'm supposed to be cooking it at 400*F, so... yeah.

Do you have anything like a large flat metal pan? That's a cookie sheet.

Alas, no. Not that I can find, anyway. All I have is that plastic "cling wrap", and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be safe.Darth_Zod wrote:do you have any aluminum foil wrapping available?
I... well, I guess i could nuke it, but I'm supposed to be cooking it at 400*F for 30 minutes in an oven... can a microwave compete with that?or if all else fails, you can plop the pie out of the tin in a microwaveable safe container and nuke it.
Hrm, it comes in a pretty little aluminum thing. I think the only real purpose of the sheet is to prevent a fire if I cook it too long and crap bubbles over the sides.
Damnit, I'm hungry, but I don't want to burn the house down.

i've nuked 'oven bake only' pot pies before. leave it on high for about 5 minutes, occasionally checking to make sure it's getting cooked thoroughly. it'll turn out more or less fine.

And you thought school sucked!
So, day off or something?
Anyway, to answer your question, I'm trying to live the life of a college student. I can't cook anything outside of a microwave, and even that's iffy at times. All you can do is try it and see.
Oh, and you're not intending to use the pie to the aims of a certain movie character, are you...?

That's it, I'm calling in the truancy squad!

Well, thanks, but I found the big flat metal pan-thing and I am now pre-heating the oven.
FOOD!
Thanks Zod, thanks Spanky. I'm slowly learning.
EDIT: And Ice, NO! *bap* I plan to eat the thing, not try to fuck it!

Any thin metal pan that would have given a couple inches worth of space between the pot pie and the edges would have worked, too. A good sized cake pan, for instance, or a pizza pan. You need enough space for the hot air to circulate around the pie, but something to catch any bubbling overflow.
Stuff like that you can be pretty improvisational with.
And microwaving pot pies is fine, if you don't mind soggy crusts.

I've nuclearated pot pies and have gotten crispy crusts, but they were designed for the radiation box.Frank Hipper wrote:And microwaving pot pies is fine, if you don't mind soggy crusts.

Not if they're for the nuker, though. Usually. The pot pies I usually eat come in cardboard pots.Nathan F wrote:Make sure the pot pie you have doesn't have an aluminum pot before sticking it in the micro!
Many pot pies come with the little aluminum bowl doodad.

"nuclearated"? Your high falutin' technologicicical terminoscopy may get you far in New York City, but here in Unincorporated, Arizona, they just don't translate.Dalton wrote:I've nuclearated pot pies and have gotten crispy crusts, but they were designed for the radiation box.Frank Hipper wrote:And microwaving pot pies is fine, if you don't mind soggy crusts.

And pretty much Dalton's right...if specifically made for Nuking...ir can have a crispy crust...if not go for either toaster oven or regular oven.
