Sorry for creating yet another thread on the subject, but this one has a purpose as it deals with the reaction of those people who actually saw it.
Basically, the title "Kill Jesus" sums it all up. It's the torture scene from Braveheart, expanded to feature-film lentgth. The movie begins with Jesus' arest and ends with his crucifiction. In between, we see him beaten, whipped, and beaten some more. That's it.
At least the cinematography was good, but all those slo-mos were annoying. Spoken Aramaic and Latin was cool, though.
My verdict: 2.5/5
Have a very nice day.

Your impressions of Kill Jesus...erm the Passion
Moderator: Edi
Plot: Basically worthless. We all know it and are sickened by it. Matrix Revolutions' was better. They beat the crap out of a dude who refuses to resist even though he could easily escape at any time untill he's dead.
Acting was very good. It's not like the parts themselves were so hard, but they were doing a convincing job entirely in languages that are no longer spoken.
The violence was highly exaggerated by the media. It doesn't even approach Kill Bill or Saving Private Ryan. Probably not even Mortal Kombat 1.
On the anti-semitic thing, again it was extremely exaggerated. The priests wanted to kill him because he was annoying them. The Romans went through with it because they didn't want to be annoyed by the priests. Basically, he was eventually killed because it was least annoying for everyone (and thus supposedly everyone's responsiblity).
The camera work was impressive, along with the editing. All of the costuming and set design had an immense amount of work put into it, and was very cool looking. The music is appropriate for what's going on, and pretty cool by itself.
As a film, I would give it 5/5. @#$% the content, it's an extremely well made deal that will be influential for decades. The value of the story itself is very highly dependent on your thoughts before you see it. If you regard the entire thing as pathetic bs, that's what it is. A 0/5. If you believe the story to be a simplistic moral lesson, whatever. And if you're a psycho fundie, 9999/5. x.X
In any case, I suggest that people go see it. It's only a movie, the conflicts over the story really don't matter that much. I looked at it as a fantasy movie, not some kind of historical documentary.

[I'm Rick James, bitch] I wish I had more hands...so I could give it four thumbs down [/I'm Rick James, bitch]. Actually, it wasn't really that bad, but I just wanted to say that.
Anyway, I guess it was ok. I mean, I expected to see Jesus tortured, and that's what I got that. I wasn't moved at all. Not just because I'm an atheist, but because I couldn't really appreciate why Jesus was going through all that. If the film had focused more on his teachings, or his religious conviction, than I certainally would have enjoyed it more. I certainally was moved by a movie like Ghandi, because the flim showed his strength as a man, and not just two hours of him being assassinated.
I'd like to hear from some Christians on the board, since the theater where I saw it at, several people were weeping. I wonder if their experience was as profound as that.
And just some random observations I had during the film.
-Romans looked like total badasses. In a different life, I'd always wanted to be a dude hefting a shield and gladius, keeping the barbarians at bay.
-What anti-semitism?
-What violence? In no way was it worse than Saving Private Ryan.
-Spoken latin kicks ass.
-Mary Magdalen (sp) was a total babe. The romantic in me wanted her to hook up with John.
All in all, I'm glad I saw it, and I recomend it.

"In the new trilogy, Anakin Skywalker portrays a damning indictment of technology's modern dehumanization of mankind through Hayden Christensen's lifeless, almost inhuman performance. There is a river of tragedy in every robotic line he utters, a horrific monotonal indication of his cyborgal fate."-Dr. Albert Oxford, PhD

What I can't figure out is why people think that "look at how he suffered!" will make anyone convert. Do they think that the rest of the people killed by the Romans were given humane lethal injections or something? Do they think that a guy burning to death from a white-phosphorous grenade is enjoying himself? Do they think Adolf Hitler's victims died peacefully in their sleep? (OK, Mel Gibson's father does)
The great travesty of the Jesus Myth is not that he suffered, but that his suffering is supposed to be sooooo much more fucking important than the suffering of every other victim of every other crime in history, including those who supposedly died at God's own hands.

Yes, they'd have to be fighting God in the crusades in order to convert due to the suffering. Instead of some muslims following a false God.neoolong wrote:Does the suffering of Muslims during the Crusades mean we're supposed to convert to Islam, according to their line of reasoning? Or is Jesus "special."
