Was the Super Star Destroyer launched before the events of "A new hope"?

After. It's first mission was attacking Yavin Base.

After the Death Star was destroyed, the Executor's first deployment was attacking Yavin Base.

Ah okay.
Well was there a Super Star Destroyer deployed before ANH?

No.
The Executor is the namesake of the Executor-class Star Destroyer line, and therefor the first ship of its class.

Damn, that sucks. Oh well, thanks for the info.

Why does it suck? There's been plenty of Executor vessels

I have to shift the date my Fan fiction takes place.
Not much of a problem but it does raise the question as to why Vader and the executor are being launched for a mission in the Milky way when the current problem with the rebelion is a tad bit more important.

use the hitler trick: say the emperor was confident in the ability of the imperial navy to fight a war on two fronts.

That'll work that'll work, wont be that far off since they probably play shuffle board in hell with one another Lol.
"My lord, would it not be prudent to deal with the rebels first?"
"The rebelion is of no consequence, this galaxy however, you could conquer with just your one ship, now go my servant and bring them into my empire."
"Yes my lord."

You could just make up a name for one of the big capital cruisers seen in Dark Empire, and use that. I've done that several times for fan fiction, I like several of those designs more then the Executor. Simply using a Shockwave would also work, it depends on if you just want an impressive ship much bigger then an ISD or if you really want an Executor.

Super Star Destroyer has more effect on those that read about it then the other ships of the novels. Simply because its the one we've actually seen and its just so dang ominous(sp) lookin.

I think a 5 foot long Eclipse has a much better effect, espiecally when its drops the full sized E-E's shields with one shot and then flies through the corriders gunning down yellow shirts.

Did the Executor BDZ the planet? If so, how did Luke set up his Jedi Academy if that were the case. Or could it be that the Executor was as powerful as KJA described the "super star destroyer" in Dark Saber. The Super Star Destroyer in Dark Saber was great at destroying jungle, but not much else.
Incidentally, how does that affect the power ratings for Imperial capital ship weapons? Is it just ignored?

They didn't BDZ it. It was meant to sweep up any rebels and try to find some evidence of where they went.

no the Executor did not BDZ the planet, it was used to attack the Fleeing Rebel ships

Its assumed KJA as time and time agian, is an idiot, who's name shall be striken from the record
And for your information its overulled by many many sources in EU,
If One example is contradicted by just one other then both are ignored
However if it contradicts with many many OTHER examples then it is ignored
Also Later Books Over-rule eariler ones so the Devstation Witnessed in "Rebel Stand" when the Lusyanaka bombards part of the planet of Borileius would overrule KJA trip
Its handled just the same as the Low-Kiloton examples of ST weapons like in Five I belive a Torp was called down meters from Kirks Position and he was not hurt(Not somthing that could be done even with a kiloton level omni-direction weapon like the Photon torp)

Just because we didn't see it before hand doesnt mean they diidnt exist prior to it.
Plus, Solo said there were plenty of command ships.

Of course it has no factual basis.
1. Executor was 1st of its class
2. It was produced at Fondor yards
3. Production was such a big secret, they sealed off ALL OF FONDOR and forbid them from taking other contracts
4. Kuat secretly built a mirror Executor which was renamed Lusankya.
5. All further SSDs were built at Kuat.

Aside from the EU, it would make no sense with the design linaege.
We would go from Ep II Acclamator > Ep III Executor > Ep IV Imperator.
It would be kind of confusing if you ask me.

Command ship doesn't necessarily mean an
Executor class. The Empire had a number of big battleships suitable for use as a commandship.
