I just bought the special edition of The Right Stuff DVD. And I just have to say, what a wonderful little (long) movie! I loved the way they interweaved Chuck Yeager throughout the film.
First, before any type of flamming occurs, let me just acknowledge Yeager most likely deserves everything he's credited for and his near God like status in aviation. But, question: Regardless of the qualified pilot of the X-2, would it still have broken the sound barrier? As in, if Slick took it out, would he have broken the barrier instead of Yeager?
The Right Stuff: Great Movie!

I think somebody was going to break the sound barrier at around that time, if not Yeager, then someone else. But Yeager was in the right spot at the right time and managed to sneak his busted ribs past observing eyes in order to get the honor.
For extra bonus points - Chuck himself appears in a walk on role in that movie. Can you spot him? Who can say when he walks on and who he's playing?
