Web hosting free?

I am thinking about starting up a site, but most of the hosting sites I am looking at charge a monthly fee. Are there any free ones? How do you guys do it?

I use Geocities, not great but it's easy enough to use.

But for linking to pics on here I use Angelfire.

Do you have plain HTML pages or dinamic scripting like PHP?

I don't know anything about how they actually behave (I use Romanian free hosting - if you are interested I'll give you links, but I think you would prefer English sites and servers closer to you). Anyway here you have a couple of offers I found on the Internet:

If you get the free package on 50megs, you can't upload via an FTP program either.

Geocities is a piece of shit when rendering under Mozilla. Their "banner" system is so incompatible with other browsers than IE that you get a really awful footer and header.

If you can dish out 5 dollars a month I recommend Page-Zone. Free web hosting is not what it used to be
