Battlefield Vietnam

I have BF1942 and reasonably liked it (especially with DC/X mods). Is BFV worth the buy or not?

If you want my opinion: No. I downloaded the free Eve of Destruction mod and, as far as I am concerned, it is a superior game to BF:V in many respects.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Battlefield Vietnam is horribly unbalanced, has the greatest newb cannon ever, has awful sound, and generally sucks. On top of that EA has evidently said they pretty much intend for the game only to be played modded so there not going to do anything to balance it. I'd save your money and keep playing BF1942, or at least put off the purchase until its been patched or modded a fuckload.

Eve of destruction isn't unbalanced. Granted, the weapon systems are not True-to-life by any stretch but the uberness of SVR and US vs. NVA is evenly distributed. That is to say, the Patton Tank and it's godlike cannon and ridiculous armor factor are outweighed by the NVA Helo....fuck which was it....with the rockets....fuck it.

Also, most NVA equipment is amphib, a capability their american counterparts for the most part lack. (Unless you count that craptacular troop carrier) At any rate, I rather like EoD, and see past it's inherent sound bugs (An M-16 is NOT supposed to sound like a thompson.) and the fact that it's a nade spammers wet dream. Maps like Mekong and Brown water Navy are great, and operation....operation...Linebacker on CTF is just too much fun to be legal.

So, it seems that Battlefield 1942 and its mods are still very popular among online players?

Perhaps I should reinstall the game and try it...

Battlefield Vietnam is not horrible unbalanced, its just unbalanced, the NVA still manage to win a goodly fourty to sixty percent of the time on the servers I plane on

BF Vietnam sounds kick ass, I don't Sea Skimmer is talking about, a few things could do with being more forceful sure and the music gimmic is one of the best new gimmics to come out recently

True the American's have the M60 class which incudles a M60 machine gun and either four dispoasable LAW's or five gernades and a GL but never undersetminate the abilitys of the NVA hole diggers with the ability to create a spawn point... Anywhere on the map(Except in the sky and under water of course :P )

But nothing beats the Ming-21 when it comes to air power as it main cannon easly sreads any an all American fighters plus the Phantom's who's FaF heat seekers are rectivly useless unless you go head to head with another fighter plus the chance of it twirling around and hitting one of your guys or locking in on a ground tank
