Kim Campbell One of Fifty Greatest World Leaders
At least according to this, which ranks Canada's first female Prime Minister among the fifty greatest world leaders in history, for her grand total of 132 days in office.

Kim Campbell basically served as a fucking placeholder for the PM position until they got around to holding an election. The only reason she's on that list is because she's female.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

And very unpopular it would seem. What a stupid listing.Ghost Rider wrote:

Has anyone seen the complete listing? The article doesn't list it. Would be interesting to see the other 50 places...

Kim who? Now I was out of the country when she was PM, but really now, Kim Campbell? OK so she was our first female PM which I guess is kinda special but it's not like she did anything other than keep the PM's seat warm until the general elections were held a few months later.

They're giving her the spot because she occupies a place in Canadian history. The first American female president will no doubt be similarly honoured, even if she does a horrible job.

Just like Paul Martin, and no one appears to be calling Paul Martin a fake Prime Minister. That's just the way our system works.Solauren wrote:All, it should be pointed out she wasn't elected by the people of Canada, but rather her political party.

I wouldn't call Paul Martin a fake PM, just like I didn't say Kim Campbell was one either. Rather, both of them are seatwarmers, they both serve as placeholders or interim PMs until we can get around to an election. The difference of course is that Kim Campbell just sat on her ass for the 5 months while Paul Martin is actually doing something.

ummmm... isn't every Canadian PM elected by their political party and not by the people?Solauren wrote:All, it should be pointed out she wasn't elected by the people of Canada, but rather her political party.

Yes and no.
Kim Campbell (and Paul Martin) was not head of her polictial party when it was elected.
And I'm not calling Kim Campbell a fake PM. Just any claim to 'greatness' is weakened by her not having been put into power by a federal election.
Now, if she had been re-elected by a federal election, that's different.

What exactly is Paul Martin doing? All he seems to be doing is dodging flak from the sponsership scandal.aerius wrote:I wouldn't call Paul Martin a fake PM, just like I didn't say Kim Campbell was one either. Technically, but most of the times the Leader of the party determines which one they vote for, more so than their MP. What they mean by saying she wasn't elected is that she wasn't the leader of the Political Party when they were elected in.Col. So it's like the electoral college, but with even more loopholes for parties to just 'elect' whoever the hell they want. And you think the American political system is a joke.....The Aliens wrote:Technically, but most of the times the Leader of the party determines which one they vote for, more so than their MP. Not true at all- the leader of a party is voted on by all members of that party- regular people, not just MPs. And since the PM is always the Leader of the ruling party, they don't jus elect whoever the hell they want.Col.
