No usergroup group for gearheads?

Post by Arthur_Tuxedo »

We need a place on this board where we can talk about stroked and bored, forced induction, alcohol burning big block power and other such topics. I love that kind of stuff, but alas, I'm simply a poseur who can barely install new spark plugs, so I'm not at all the ideal person to run such a group.

Anyone want to step up to the plate?

P.S. Hehe, "409" by the Beach Boys just started playing by chance on my playlist. How ironic. Giddyup, indeed :D

The number of usergroups has essentially peaked. TPTB have decided we've got quite enough private forums.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.

Yes. Being a minor POWER THAT IS I can tell you that unless you've got a compelling case, you're not going to get a private forum. Unless Mike decides that he just likes the idea, then he might do it on impulse.

Yeah. After we took down the Mailbox I believe it was decided that there has to be some damn good justification if you want your own private forum.

Usergroups, however, are a different matter - there's still a SEGNOR usergroup.

If we can't get a damned sports forum, then there will be no gearhead forum. Especially since I am an all powerful Moderator and stuff. My word is LAW! So it is written, so shall it be done.

*grumble* Still a good idea. Maybe someday. I'd go find a forum like that somewhere else but they're all full of morons.

You bring up a good point. If (in the distant future it seems) the group ever did get created, we'd have to make it clear that it's for fans of kickass street machines, no ricers allowed.

Ricers are legitimate gearheads too. (Some of them) I see no point in excluding them because they prefer bodykits, camberkits, and bolt-on turbo charges to a 350 bored .30 over, stroked, having super-lift cams, dualed thrush exhaust, a ford 9-inch rear end, and a 2 speed powerglide tranny.

To even begin to justify a new forum it would help to show that such threads acutally exist in the first place and are being squashed. Personally I haven't noticed any car threads in some time beyond a few asking, "What should I buy"

Sorry, breakdown in communication on my part. The definition of ricer used to only refer to wannabes who put decals and stupid spoilers and broken lawnmower mufflers on cheap imports but didn't improve performance.

I didn't mean to bash import car modding fans in general.

I and my 32" swampers would support and enthusiatically join this group.

Well, OK, I don't have 'em yet. 15,000 more miles and I'll buy 'em, I swear!

I was thinking, and it seems to me that you're (you meaning the mods that have posted in this thread) right in that there would not be enough demand to justify a private forum, but a usergroup with no forum would still be useful, the purpose being this:

If someone is, say, building a hot rod, they could look at the member list in order to know who to ask about the subject. They would not (or should not, anyway) post asking for advice in the off-topic section because the signal to noise ratio would be indistinguishable from zero.

It would also provide another service in that new users could see the usergroup and find out that there are people interested in and knowledgeable about street rodding, so that might ask questions that they otherwise would not have.

Gearheads also tend to like each other and have some amount of solidarity, a necessity for a usergroup.

So, what do you think?
