Opera 7.5 released

Post by Datana »

If you use Opera and the MillenniumFalcon theme here at SD.net, getting the latest Opera 7.5 might be a good idea. They finally fixed the bug which made loading up non-first pages of a thread impossible, along with some alignment issues that had been bothering me on other sites. Of course, it resets all of your browser settings (as the old ones are incompatible), which really annoys me. Admittedly, it's a small number of us here that actually use Opera, and fewer still who use MillenniumFalcon, but this removed one of the biggest gripes I had with this browser.

EDIT: Oh, and for those that aren't familiar with Opera, you can find the website here.

The changelog contains a full list, but most of the new features are limited to the mail client and new IRC chat client, both of which I use other programs for. The browser has had an interface change and compatibility fixes, but from using it tonight, it doesn't feel too much different so far (apart from better compatibility with sites I'd previously had to visit with Mozilla or IE instead).

Cool, I'll eventually get it. I love Opera, but it's a pain to upgrade, because getting your old bookmarks into it is like pulling fucking teeth compared to other browsers.

Incidentally, that multi-page linking problem is what made me change away from the Millenium Falcon theme.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Opera 7.5 is lovely, everyone should use it. The new panel bar that replaces the hotlist is especially useful.

What are you waiting for? Get downloading.

The whole "no more giant add in the corner" is nice.

I prefered the huge ad, instead of a giant bar on top.
Also the new panel sucks, SD.net looks bad with this.

I ended up stripping out nearly all of the interface "improvements" (panels, personal bar, oversized main bar) added in 7.5. The end result is a far cleaner interface, which for me, is easier to use without distraction. The panel is very easily killable via the toggle on the left edge of the browser window, while the interface bars are killable via View->Toolbars.

If you want to copy over bookmarks and cookies, simply copy over the opera6.adr and cookies4.dat files across from Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\opera7 to Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\opera75, where Username is your Windows login.
