Learning to type (properly)

What can I implement to learn to type properly? Any ideas?

Seriously, my sixth grade typing class taught me to type the way you're supposed to, home row and all.

Just get some cheap typing software from your local computer store. Scratch that; this is the information age. Steal it off the internet.

Once you've obtained said cheesy software, just follow its tutorials, and away you go! You'll be typing like a pro in no time!

BONUS! You don't have to deal with Mr. Rettinger, my pedophile typing teacher!

I see you've already met Mr. Rettinger. He's the one that looks like the drummer from Fleetwood Mac, except that drummer is always smiling, and Mr. Rettinger never smiles.

Anyways, I'll see if I can locate any free typing software on the internet for you. Because while improper typing might suffice, proper typing is always nice.

Oh. In retrospect, he probably wasn't, but everybody thought he was, and that's what counts, isn't it?

Here's a website that has a typing program with a free 30 day trial (which you can exploit if you need it longer, I'm sure):

I don't know if the download works, but it's worth a try. I'd assume pretty much any program on the subject is as good as any other; it's not that complicated.

Download yourself a copy of Typing of the Dead. Can't tell you where to find it, but your 1337 typing skillz will improve out of sight.

Why not just practice? Right nonsense, like: a quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. it's got all the letters of the alphabet, who cares?

Touch-typing rocks. I learnt to touch type through extremely late night computing sessions back in 94 (I was 13).

I took a keyboarding class in school which didn't teach me shit about touch typing, but I did learn how to use more than 1 finger/hand to type. Over then next few years of typing out tens of thousands of words I somehow got the ability to touch type, so I think it does come down to practice.

I had this mean ( but now that I am older I realize she was fair ) teacher who would yell " A - S - D - F - J - K - L - ; < carriage return > "

And we would all have to slam these ancient manual typewriters back to the beginning of the page. This machines were old in 1984, Im sure they are gone by now.

I wanted to get out but Counselor Del Pilar would not let me leave. He said you will thank me when you are older. And you know he was right!

Guess what? I'm not in high school anymore...I really don't have that option. I'm sure there are keyboarding classe sout there in college, but I can't very well go looking for them just yet...

Oh, I thought you were in HS. Do they have community colleges were you are?
They are pretty cheap and offer keyboarding.

Then I guess for you the software is the way to go.

They have a community college yes, but I am enrolled at the big university...I have been trying the software, and if I keep at it, I should be able to learn to type really well...

That sounds like a plan. I would not want to pay big money for a typing class at a University either.

Heh. I think I'll stick to the download...if all else fails, I think my mom has a typing program on a CD at home in Roswell...

I don't give a damn about fingering. When I want to type properly, I just type slowly. If I type fast, I just fix any typos I see after I'm done. I was taught typing in 6th grade, but I didn't learn anything.
