Why? New insights? Hopefully they don't fuck things up.Classic Trilogy Scholastic Books
June 16, 2004
This Fall, with the long-awaited debut of the Star Wars trilogy on DVD, fans of all ages will have reason to celebrate the films that started it all. Scholastic Inc. joins the celebration with a trilogy of new junior novelizations written by Ryder Windham.
These new novelizations adapt each episode of the classic Star Wars trilogy with a fresh perspective afforded by the imminent completion of the entire six-part Star Wars saga. Windham, a Star Wars authority who has written numerous books and comics, offers new insight into the characters and events that weren't possible back in the '70s and '80s when these films first debuted.
Each paperback novel -- Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is 160 pages long, and features wrap-around cover designs. They are scheduled for release this October.
Joining this trilogy is the return of the The Complete Star Wars Trilogy Scrapbook, by Mark Cotta Vaz. Originally published in 1997 to commemorate the theatrical release of the Special Editions, this photo-packed paperback examines all aspects of the Star Wars galaxy, from the main heroes and villains, to the exotic aliens and world of the classic trilogy. Sporting a brand new cover, this 64-page book is also slated for release in October.

I remember buying a TPM "novel" that was made for kids. DIdn't realize it until later though. D'oh!Spanky The Dolphin wrote:"Junior Novelisations"? What's wrong, the original ones aren't good enough for today's kids?
Bleh...
Is that any less canon than the "official" one (Terry Brooks I think)?

Agreed. Hopefully it won't be much of a problem, though: these should just rehash the same old stuff but add a few tidbits that make sense in retrospect what with the Clone Wars all fleshed out.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I'd only consider them on the official level and overidden by the regular canon novelisations.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Wait, aren't they the guys who wrote that steaming pile of shit called The Glove of Darth Vader!!!???
If they wrote it, then Jabba would have a beard, every blip artoo made would be written down as dialogue, and the Emperor's Force lightning would "ZING" Luke. Not to forget Darth Vader's super glove.
In the words of Colonel Kurtz: "The horror! The horror!"

The board doesn't use HTML, Haze.
There are some pretty good reviews of them on The Force.Net in their Book section, but you're gonna half to find them your own self.
EDIT: Man, that guy you linked to gets the years for the books wrong. They were written in like the late 1980s, not the 70s... And just half a page? Kinda disappointing...

Trioculus: "My father, the Emperor, had many powers of the Dark Side. But without three eyes he could never achieve perfection."
"Memorize this code, Luke," Obi-Wan continued. "Its importance shall soon become clear to you: JE-99-DI-88-FOR-00-CE." Then he began to fade away.
(Trioculus admiring Leia) "She has a striking face," said Trioculus. "Strong features, but soft. Not at all unattractive, considering that she's a Rebel Alliance woman with only two eyes."
"Who lives in Jabba's palace now?" Ken inquired. "It's vacant," Luke said, "except for the Ranats that scurry around chewing on the furniture and drapes. You see, when Jabba died, they never found his will. So the government of Tatooine took possession of his palace. For awhile they turned it into the Tatooine Retirement Home for Aged Aliens. But there wasn't enough money in the budget to keep it open."
(To Princess Leia) Trioculus took a few steps toward her. "Is it so wrong to be a murderer?" he asked. "Or a liar? Or an inhuman monster? I may be all of those things, but I still have a heart."
Oh yes, and who could forget the Rebel Alliance building a school on Dagobah called Dagobah Tech?

I have all six in the series. Sadly, they were my introduction into the EU. It was a Barnes & Noble hardcover edition, too. I shudder at the depth of my sin.
I assure you, Stofsk, Joe did not make up those snippets. Too bad those books are mentioned in the Essential Chronology.
