The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has released a report into plane crash in East Timor that killed six people last year.

The Russian built cargo jet crashed at Baucau in East Timor in January 2003.

The Bureau's investigation found numerous errors in the flight crews preparations and operations while in the air.

It says the crew did not obtain proper information for the flight before departing, and did not request weather information, which was bad at the time and contributed to the crash.

The ATSB also found that at one point, engine thrust was applied an the wrong time during descent and that the pilot had taken the plane too low for the surrounding terrain.

The report also says the flight crew failed in its operations, only realising they were going to crash two-and-a-half seconds before impact.
