Damn proprietary connectors

Post by Pu-239 »

I got the opportunity to get a boatload of stuff that was about to be thrown out, and I had to leave a Sun Sparc workstation behind since it required proprietary connectors for everything. Also, I have here a bunch of nice SCSI equipment without cables. I got a nice 12x Plextor SCSI CD burner... (of course that's for me).

Who wants an array of 4 4x cdrom drives loaded with caddies put nicely in a case? I also have a box of 8mm D8-112 tapes, an SDSL modem (for T1 I assume) and a bunch of other stuff.

Mmm, free stuff. Heh, my school district has an old AS/400 server (and an expansion card that was never opened, still in the antistatic bag and the IBM box and all), but I doubt they'd let me take that home for free.

I think you should have taken the Sparc anyway... you might have been able to find the remaining components on eBay or something like that.

That Plextor 12x should work really well... I've had the ATAPI version of that burner since Jan. 2001 and it's been a pure pleasure.

What's the other stuff you have?

Also, if anyone wants some Pentium 166 chips, they have boxes of them at my school district that they will never use. They gave me an external Zip drive and a stack of Zip 100 disks last week... I'm sure I could get those Pentium chips if I wanted.

The problem is that a Sun monitor will probably cost something on Ebay, and I don't feel like shelling out money for anything. Prices for a sparcstation aren't that high anyway- probably better just to try out Solaris x86 if I'm that inclined.

I also got 2 tape drives which are not compatible with my box of tapes, 4 computers (P-90, PII-266, PII-333, and a PII-400, plus a computer that uses a 486 w/o a CPU- I might want some of those Pentium 166s). 18 CD changer(SCSI), a case with 4 caddy CD-ROM drives (all SCSI), and some trackballs and mice.
