As you may or may not know, there is currently another one of those international custody disputes going on between Finland and the US, with the Finnish mother of a Finnish-American couple raising nine kinds of hell and a dozen varieties of pandemonium about the custody dispute with her American husband.
Facts of the case: She did not have sole custody of the kids (two boys, ages 9 and 12), and she brought them to Finland for a holiday some months ago, which was all okay and agreed upon with the boys' dad. The problem is that she didn't take them back, and they were then living with their father, and now she is refusing to abide by court decisions. The lower court here said they have to go back, because of the international treaty on child kidnapping Finland and US are both signatories to and which says that custodial disputes are handled in the country of residence of the children (in this case the US), the Appeals Court overturned that, saying the kids' opinion is weighty enough and because they want to stay with mom etc etc, and finally the Supreme Court bitch-slapped the Appeals Court and ordered the boys returned immediately and then made the followup decision to refuse to reverse their own ruling when the whiny cunt demanded it.
Now it's all over the fucking media here, just like the Campoy case a few years ago (almost exactly the same, except worse, the mom took her kids away from the states in the middle of a custody trial), and they're again trotting out the same bullshit from the whiny social workers who keep talking about children's interests (and ignoring the larger ramifications of ignoring the treaty), with protests featuring kids carrying placards saying things like "The Boys say: No USA, Yes Finland" and for fuck's sake, even some members of our Parliament have gone in on the act.
These assholes need to be beaten severely with a 2x4 with rusty nails sticking out of it. How the fuck can we demand other countries to abide by the treaty when Finnish kids are taken elsewhere (numerous cases down the years), and yet it seems that when a Finnish parent does the same, there is no way the kids should be returned to the country of origin to settle the case? This bitch, just like that Campoy woman earlier, brought all the shit and negative consequences on herself by acting in defiance of both nation's laws and if she is not awarded custody (typically a huge mark against if you've taken the kids on your own), she's got nobody but herself to blame, and I'm fucking tired of hearing about an open and shut case like it was somehow big news. Just like the Elian Gonzalez case a few years ago, same thing, that, the Campoy case and now this new one. All cut from the same cloth.
These assholes piss me off no end.
