Darth Vader Force Feat
I recall reading this in the the ROTJ Novelization many years ago and wanted to make sure I was reading this right. Vader's shuttle approaches the Deathstar over Endor. The control station tells Vader's shuttle that they must wait until they get confirmation of the code. THEN IIRC Because Vader is impatient his shuttle proceeds forward and the shield around the Deathstar parts enough to allow the shuttle to pass through Vader's sheer will.
Am I wrong about this? If so does this mean that Vader could penetrate a shield rated to withstand nearly any bombardment?

If so, then why didn't Vader do it in TESB to allow the ISDs and Executor to take down the planetary shields? I think that contradicts the movies.

The novel stated, once again going from memory, that it was an opening just large enough for the shuttle so maybe Vader can only open it for a very short period of time with a small gap created.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:If so, then why didn't Vader do it in TESB to allow the ISDs and Executor to take down the planetary shields? His first appearance when he confronts Jerjerrod. "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."Tribun wrote:Ahem, when does this scene take place?
At the beginning, or when Vader exits the Executor, to talk with the Emperor?

A shuttle-sized gap created for a split second is all that's needed for an HTL blast to get through it and take out the shield generator. And if it misses, he could always try it again. The same trick is done with the torpedo sphere.
EDIT: In fact, he could order the gunners to keep firing on the shield and then he could create the opening as the constant stream of HTLs are converging on that spot and then a few would get through and bye-bye shield.

Will have to read it again, but I don't remember it. I think they are merely implying he was extraordinarily teed off.

Very true. I didn't even think of that.Tribun wrote:Since it contraidicts the movie, where they were given clearance to pass through the shield and land in the DS2, it is meaningless anyway.

If I'm right about this in the novelization though it could be used to gauge how powerful Vader could be if the original scripts called for him opening a gap in the shield through use of the Force.

I thought that if it contradicts the movie it is completely thrown out?

Also Tribun it's not completely taken out since I do remember them getting clearence as well in the novel.
One doesn't throw evidence away untill it contradicts everything on every angle...we don't do because then that is no better then picking and choosing what we like and dislike so to insure one side is simply better.

Ok, so if it did in fact happen even with clearence, wouldn't the effect of the shield parting be noticeable in the movie?

Re: Darth Vader Force Feat
Actually, I don't understand how you leaped to that conclusion in the novel. They were already processing his clearance, and all they neglected to do was to explicitly say they cleared him. And from that you leaped to the conclusion that Vader forced the shield?Stravo wrote:Am I wrong about this? Re: Darth Vader Force Feat
It was from memory. I just remember that the guy was trying to process the clearance then Vader tells his pilot to keep going and the guy was stunned as an opening appeared in the shield and watched the shuttle go through.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:Actually, I don't understand how you leaped to that conclusion in the novel. In my version of novelization a breach apeared in shield. BTW could have used the secrect code that emperor has installed in imperial hardware (he probaly knows the code).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

The pilot does say my passanger is in no mood to wait.
So the man doing the clearence may have opened the shield guessing who was on board. The Shuttle did just come out of a Star Destroyer, its a good bet it was someone important.
Vader may have given the shield opperator a love crush just as a hint of who wants in.
Or since he is familier with the controls flipped the switch himself with the force. That is something he couldn't have done with the Rebel shield

No, Vader didn't clear the shield. The operators in the control room did.ROtJ by James Kahn wrote:Only now, the security web was beginning to separate, to retract and form a clear channel...

HTL's are rather unforgiving when it comes to taking prisoners, that being the goal of the trip.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:A shuttle-sized gap created for a split second is all that's needed for an HTL blast to get through it and take out the shield generator. Ok, fine, then MTLs or maybe LTLs; whatever would get the job done to knock out the shield generator. They did say they could make an orbital bombardment to take out the shield generator, so they could have done it somehow while still taking prisoners, as the original plan depended on their ability to do so.
