Gamespot wrote:The team has been holed in an unmarked building for months, nay years, but now, the coders, programmers, artists, and designers behind the making of Halo 2 are stepping into the light.

In a post this afternoon on the developer's official site, Bungie.net, word comes that Halo 2 is complete.

"We are basically done making Halo 2. Seriously. Barring any unexpected shenanigans, Halo 2 is done and dusted, simultaneously, for every region it will be released in worldwide. Oh, and Parsons has been hitting the sushi again..."

"Parsons" refers to Peter Parsons, the former marketing exec at Microsoft who was put in charge of the Halo 2 project shortly after the Bungie team moved from its original home turf of Chicago to Redmond.

The post reads in part:

"It isn't literally the last update of course, since there's lots to do and say between now and November 9th, but I can honestly say that there's no more updating on the progress of the game, since the game is done. Finished and shipped to a nebulous region known as RTC (Release To Certification) where it will be dumped from eight digital tapes onto a DVD and go through some final testing. Usually that's just a matter of routine, but we'll be watching our email carefully through next week.

"Roger handed off the tapes in LA yesterday, and as I write this, Alta, the Bungie Princess, is picking some discs up at Seatac Airport. And the office is eerily quiet--the calm broken intermittently by the rustle of a tumbleweed, or the rhythmic 'barrrrrump' of a Parsons Sushi fart. Terrifying as it is to me, Parsons ordered Sushi for the celebratory lunch today.

"There are still many steps between now and the game's arrival on shelves, including the not-insignificant process of actually manufacturing MILLIONS of copies of the game."

No word on whether the above-mentioned proclivities of said Parsons will make it into the final audio track of the game.

GameSpot will update the Halo 2 story as it develops.
Halo fans rejoice! Our baby is on its way and nothing is going to stop it now.

Alyeska, are you going to bitch in every thread about the Xbox Halo 2 with your lament about there being no PC version? We know you think it is unfair; you don't need to bring it up in EVERY SINGLE THREAD ABOUT HALO.

And I'll proceed to care when Microsoft gets off their XBOX hardon and lets the game onto the system it belongs on.

Because, of course, a game developed firstly for the XBOX doesn't belong on the XBOX.

Halo was indeed designed for the PC/Mac platform originally. Halo 2 OTOH was designed from the ground up to be an Xbox game so the "system it belongs on" is the Xbox, not the PC.

HALO was fantastically easy to beat with a proper control format.

Legendary...now THAT is a workout. And yes, Halo 2 was designed from the ground up for Xbox, but that's only because Microwhore hijacked the series with their botch-up of Bungie's perfectly good original Halo plans.

In a very rare moment, I'm going to agree with Kernel. GET A FRIGGIN' XBOX, PEOPLE!

Good news, though. My roommates and I are planning the week around the game. :D

System exclusives are nothing new; companies have been doing them for years. I don't like Microsoft, but I certainly won't begrudge them for wanting a hot property to be exclusive to their system.

Well, it's a start. Now if I can just convince you that trickle down economic theory is ass backwards we might be on to something. :D

Perhaps if I were talking about HALO, that snide comment would have some relevence... oh, but I'm not.

You people and your pointless bitching about consoles vs PCs.

WTF! On PC?!? Where it can be buggy, and need constant patches. Not support the newest hardware you just installed to run it and Doom 3? When you do finally configure your system to run it, you wind up fucking over all your other fantastic games?!? I only need to do three things to enjoy a console game. Push the power button, the eject button, and close the tray. Bam! No more brown eye.

I was always a Halo hater when it first came out, just because I didn't agree with the system it was on. Not to mention later when I did play it, I ran the multiplayer and it was slow and sluggish. However, since I have recently acquired and XBox, I have borrowed my cousin's copy indefinitely and played the hell out of it. Now I have the special ed version on preorder. Saweeet!

Why does every thread in which Halo is mentioned have to turn into a consoles vs. PC flamefest? Everyone just shut the fuck up; this is a thread about the launch of Halo 2, not about your beef with consoles or PC's.

Antialiasing...proper control scheme...antialiasing...MORE antialiasing...not having to monkey with funky S-Video-In and stereo-audio conversion...still more antialiasing...having a single multifunction hardware setup instead of a dedicated game system to take up more space...not having to shell out for /another/ bit of gaming hardware when my video card is already wildly more powerful... Yes, consoles have some advantages, but they've disadvantages too.
