Why would this happen?

When I open "start" menu on my Windows XP, I get the list of programs for the pc, right? Ok, you know how you can right-click on these and put a shortcut on the desktop? Mine won't right click on it. I mean, when I right click, nothing happens. Now, when I run it in safe mode, I can right click normally and make short cuts. What gives?

Try this.

Rclick and hold the right button.

Drag and release to the desktop.

Choose create shortcut.

-Edit-

Do the right button work on other stuff?

Only in Safe Mode.

so just browse to c:\documents and settings\

then go to the folder for either "all users", or your user account.

go to the "startmenu" folder, find the shortcut you want there, and manualy copy and paste to your desktop.

Sounds like a driver problem to me (which could be why it works in safe mode, i.e. with standard drivers).

What kind of mouse is it?
Did any special drivers come with it?

Sounds like some one didn't enable right clicking on menu. Or is it dragging and dropping on menu. Anywho, check your menu settings. I'm sorry, I run Linux at work so it's harder for me to troubleshoot if I can;t reproduce things.
