GUNSTAR VS. ANY TIE type
Hi guys and gals,
Just wondering, in a fight between a Gunstar (From the Last Starfighter) and any type of Tie fighter from Star Wars who would win.
Lets assume that both ships entered an area of space and cannot leave until the other is destroyed and or disabled.
Un-limited fuel and weapons for both ships.

The Defender, Avenger, and 10-Gunned Interceptor could certainly give a Gunstar a run for its money.

Didn't notice this. Gunstar activates DEATH BLOSSOM and blows any TIEs in the area away.guyver wrote:Un-limited fuel and weapons for both ships.

Death Blossom would be handicapped agaisnt a single target. It immobilises your fighter, and you have a fairly low chance of hitting the one thing you need to in a full sphere.IG-88E wrote:Didn't notice this. Gunstar activates DEATH BLOSSOM and blows any TIEs in the area away.
Especially if it fires missiles at you.
Re: GUNSTAR VS. ANY TIE type
Ignoring the fact that at least a dozen fighters were destroyed by pinpoint missile strikes in the span of a couple seconds, and that if all of these missiles were focused on one target, it would be utterly decimated.Vendetta wrote:Death Blossom would be handicapped agaisnt a single target. And don't forget the maunerverability of Gunstar missiles. He launched 4 simulanteously to hit a target BEHIND him.

The Gunstar has multi-directional weapons, is fairly manueverable and can dish out quite a bit. It can take alot of punishment to one the ties of any type would get desimated. I don't think Alex would even need Death Blossom.

That was disapointing ..Should we show this Federation how to build a ship so we may have worthy foes? Typhonis 1

The more powerful TIE fighters (Advanced MK II, Phantom, Defender) would give the gunstar a run for its money, but I believe it would win because its simply would overpower them eventually. However, due to its lack of energy shields it would take quite a beating. Grigg wouldn't be happy when he returned to the landing bay.

Yeah, those missiles were sweet now that I think back. Gotta go with the Gunstar.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster
Damn. I forgot that Gunstar was the name in the Last Starfighter. That movie was cool.
When I clicked on this thread, I thought it meant Gunstar from I-War.

But the Gunstar's weapons can track them, and I believe they have a near-360 degree field of fire. And besides, the Gunstar, despite being large, is surprisingly quick and manueverable. Don't forget the the Gunstar chased an enemy through and asteriod a la Obi-Wan in Ep. 2, but at nearly full speed.Muad'Dib wrote:Aye but a gunstar is huge compared to a a TIE or a Snub Fighter, as a larger target the higher classes of TIE such as the Avenger and the Phantom would have more to aim at.

Watch the Death Blossum scene and then come back and say that.Admiral_K wrote:With no shields a single concussion missle or protorp could probably destroy the gunstar.

If a 10 gunned Interceptor or Defender can be destroyed by a Gunstar, then so can an E-Wing.Muad'Dib wrote:what about adding any Rebel fighters to the mix, i think an E-Wing would pound on the Gunstar quite a lot

There is one thing we ought to be considering. The Gunstar that was shown in The Last Starfighter was a prototype fighter that was even more advanced then the original Gunstars. It was stated that this fighter was significantly better. That makes sense because before the aliens lost their large Fleet of Standard gunstars they were sure they would win, but not spectacularly so. Then they managed to get the prototype new Gunstar and felt they had a chance.
I wonder how "inferior" the standard Gunstars were.
