The public thinks it's a good idea because it'll stamp out viruses.
The copyright business and the police state will both love it as a way to stamp out copyright infringement and subversion.
Microsoft loves it as a means to stamp out all remaining competition, a;; criticism of God Gates, and as a means to create a transnational police state run from Redmond.
Everyone else is just resigned to the inevitibility of Microsoft's masterstroke to take over civilization or destroy it in the attempt.
