Dauntless-class (Trek design)

Post by Crayz9000 »

This is something I've been working on for a while. I'm not sure if I'm actually going to use it in anything or just leave it in my "Ship Designs - Not Interested" folder.

It's supposed to be a heavier complement to the Sovereign. The saucer and nacelles are the same scale as the Sovereign's, but the drawing was entirely my own.

This is NOT meant to be an insult, but....looks like a combo of Voyager and Enterprise.

You design TNG era trek ships in your free time?
I could understand if you'd design TOS style trek ships, but TNG... BAH!
Don't get me wrong, it looks good for a TNG ship, really like something we might see on the show, you've gotten the feel right. (but I still don't like TNG ships... not that you actually give a shit  ).
Anyways, for those who entered this thread with the same expectations like I did, here's another Dauntless:

Well, it was only an idea I had. I did learn how to use Paint Shop Pro's vector graphics capabilities while I was designing it :)

I would prefer it if the catamarans didn't slant in and merge in the rear.

I should have put some detail on that part. It's supposed to be an interchangeable module (similar to the Nebula's pod). I just couldn't figure out what to stick on it :P

Rotating torpedo launchers? A giant gun?

Heh. One idea for a module was a weapons module, which would include extra phaser strips, turreted quantum torpedo launchers. Another idea was a fuel module, which would turn it into a heavily armed fuel tanker or give it additional operating range.

I like both of those. Even better, it could be easily swapped out, turning
the ship from a refuleing tanker to a heavily-armed destroyer on a couple hours.

Heh, that would make attacking convoys pretty dangerous...who to shoot
first?

Well, that was the idea in the first place...

I don't think telling the difference would be that hard.

Well, if the pods looked fairly similar in structure, and if a ship attacked from the wrong angle, they might not be able to tell until it's too late.

Craz, what kind of ship does the Dauntless fight like? Akira? Intrepid? Defiant?

Well, it's obviously not as maneuverable as any of those ships. It's a little longer
than the Sovereign and about twice as massive. I originally envisioned it as a heavy
cruiser designed in a hurry using many of the Sovereign's components. It should
have entered service near the end of the Dominion War.

So a slower, harder-hitting Soveriegn?

Hmmm. I like that concept. Maybe Stravo could make it a part of the Shadowfleet.

Heh. Actually, the reason for its name comes from my own fanfic... I was toying with the idea of including this in the future.
