Nintendo DS woes

Post by Dalton »

So has anyone else here been experiencing issues with their Nintendo DS? I know at least one of you had to have it replaced three times. The first DS I got had two fucked-up pixels on the top screen and the replacement I just got has one on the bottom. How widespread is this problem?

I had a dead pixel. I got a replacement and it appears to have none.

I have one red pixel, and I think a blue one as well, but since it doesn't interfere with gameplay, I'm not going to get it replaced over it. However, it won't play sound through the speakers, and the only way to hear anything is through headphones. Has anyone else had that problem?

Nope. I've checked it a few times but no dead pixels and certainly no sound problems.

I got one with a dead pixel. I got it replaced. The replacement had a dead pixel. I got it replaced. The replacement had three dead pixels. I got it replaced. The fourth DS was fine.

At least it's not as bad as the HIDEOUS problems that have been plaguing the PSP...the thing can literally launch game disks out like a gun!

However, I suspect that it's because of the cold where I live. The problem isn't very widespread, and the GameStop people were suspecting it was a bad batch. I know that sometimes laptops can develop problems in cold conditions...perhaps thats it? The truck froze over while it was bringing them in? Dunno.

No sound problems whatsoever, the only problems I've had are dead pixels, and Nintendo and GameStop share the one pixel = replacement policy.

I suggest you open the box in GameStop or whatever store before you leave so they replace it on the spot.

I checked my brother's DS and it didn't have any problems whatsover thankfully.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Hm, I see. So what's the easiest way to check for dead pixels? Sometimes they don't show until you load a game.

Use the included Metroid Prime demo. On the opening when the screen is black is the only time where you can absolutely spot it (they're invisible on a white screen).

*nods* Exactly what I figured...thanks for the tip.

Nintendo says that the bad pixel won't spread, though...

I also hear you can massage the pixel and sometimes fix it.

Doesn't work on the top screen though since it has a cover.

How accurate is this statement? I find it difficult to believe.

PSP actually looks like it's going to be innovative.

The Nintendo DS is just meh, does it have anything earthshatteringly new?

I've tried it in a store, and the two screen layout is confusing as fuck and
not worth it.

I agree, as long as they get the glitches in the PSP worked out before they bring it out here, it does seem to be a more worthwhile and superior product.

I don't see what is so particularly special about the PSP. Sure, it's got better graphics. Sure, it's storage media can store more (and likely cheaper). Sure, it's got a bigger screen... But how is that so different from, say, N-Gage vs Gameboy Advance/SP? Or Wonder Swan vs Gameboy Pocket or Color?

Besides, for a handheld gaming unit, I'm more concerned about gameplay, battery time and physical durability, than I am about a few extra polygons.

How so? Most of its killer apps (or at least the ones I've heard about) are more or less copies of PS1 or PS2 games.

How so? Better graphics /= more innovative. Only thing about the PSP is better graphics. The battery life is HORRIBLE, the games pop out of the drive, you have to carry fat disks with you, etc.

You need to try the DS a bit more, with Metroid Prime Hunters. Use the "S" control scheme, and use the pen on the bottom screen. It's AMAZING control, equal to PC shooters with a mouse.

No offense, but if you're confused by that... then well... I'm sorry but I can't help you. :(

On another note, that was hilarious when the disc popped out. Do all PSP's have that problem?

I dunno, some places I've seen say yes, if you hit it at JUST the right angle, while I've seen at least one person on a forum told me it was just defective models.

I'm not really sure.
