Omega Drivers?

Post by Captain tycho »

I'm inquiring about them because, when playing WoW, my eyes hurt quite badly after playing for about 30 minutes. I asked about this in-game, and a friendly fellow said it was because XP locks WoWs framerate in at 60 fps. He recommended getting http://www.omegadrivers.net/ Omege Drivers in order to fix this. Now, my main question is, will they actually fix this problem, and will they fuck up my current drivers? (Im using an nividia GF 5200 with the latest drivers.)

It may be that your refresh rate is set to 60Hz. 60FPS should not be a problem. I am not sure if the Omega drivers will let you override those things, though, but IIRC you can google around for tools that will override an applications' refresh-rate settings.

Drivers shouldn't matter, ingame in video options, deselect Vsync. Not sure if Omega drivers are for nvidia though, always known them to be ATI alternates. Also your refresh rate is usually more dependant on your monitor than your video card, 72hz is a good setting your eyes can't tell if it's any higher.

Well, the default refresh rate is 60, but apparently you can change it through the game settings. Ill try that out.

Uh...dude, you're using an nVidia card. If you can get Omega drivers working on it, yaknow, hacked-up ATI Catalyst drivers, I worship the ground you walk on.

Just download the latest reference drivers from nvidia.com. Once you get them installed, right-click on the desktop or on the NVIDIA icon in your taskbar, then click Analog Display. In the menu box at the left of the window, click Refresh Rate Overrides. Make sure the "Override Refresh Rates" radio button is selected. Find the resolution you use in WoW, then check all the checkmarks in that row. Then, click the "Refresh Rate" box for that row, and select the refresh rate you want to use.

Yeah, thats been in the drivers since the 40.xx dets came out, which was well over a year ago. ;) Before that we were stuck with third-party tools like "RefreshLock" or had to use shareware programs to create a custom monitor profile.
