Looks nice, although I still have my doubts about Bloom, he does seem to be somewhat different here and the supporting cast is strong. It's also a) about the first Crusade, b) directed by Ridley Scott, c) has Harry Gregson-Williams doing the score and d) contains one nice siege scene.

This will be what Alexander failed to be.

So anyone care to tell me why, if this is a movie about the First Crusade, why Bloom, wearing a Crusader emblem on his chest, is told to "defend Jerusalem"?

Amazingly, Orlando Bloom doesn't look like a pretty boy in this. Or at least, not as much.

Valdemar has it. There was a bit of an uproar when the plot came out. Apparently our man Orlando leads a force of Muslims, Christians and Jews against the crusading army.

Although if this is the first crusade, and Mr. Scott dosen't have U-571 sized revisionism on his mind, it shouldn't matter.

*Shrugs* Typical movie historical revisionism... as long as they don't claim it's the authoritative version of the history of the Crusades or whatever it was Stone tried to do with Alexander, I'm not gonna give a fuck. Of course, the movie had better be good too....

How can you have a trailer as long as this one and not really say anything? Sure it looks beautiful but I got very little of the plot from the trailer and it was a relatively long one. I reserve judgment on this one.

He plays Balian of Ibelin!! A fucking Crusading knight who led Jerusalem's defense against MUSLIM ARMIES!

If this is about the First Crusade, how can Guy de Lusignan possibly be in it!?!? ALMARIC? KING BALDWIN IV? SALADIN? Half these people weren't even alive at the same fucking time!

Erm ... yes they were. Never mind about this First Crusade thing, but look at the cast list- obviously they're going to have Almaric die in a scene early on and have Baldwin IV take over, who of course did fight against Saladin, and of course Guy de Lusignan comes after Baldwin V, his five-year old nephew.

Baldwin IV- son and successor of Almaric, Latin King of Jersualem, 1174-1185

Guy de Lusignan- Latin King of Jerusalem, 1186-92

Saladin- died in 1193.

It's a pretty impressive trailer. Makes me want to go play Medieval: Total War. Again (I play it once a year without fail).

Well, I kinda feel like an idiot now (and realized my error a little while after posting it), but I still don't see how this could possibly work. Is the movie going to culminate in the Horns of Hattin? How can Legolas defend Jerusalem against the Crusaders?

Is there an actual Crusade in the movie, or does it just deal with the Crusader kingdoms? If it's the former, where the deuce is Richard and Philip? If it's the latter, when the hell do the Crusaders assault Jerusalem?

I think whatever version of the plot is out there on the internet is probably just bullshit. The synopsis on the official website is more vague.

For all we know it could turn out to be like Gladiator. Real setting with names of real people but a story and events that don't actually happen in history. Just my two cents.

Bloom is bordering on becoming the knew DiCaprio - you know a baby face trying to portray a realy manly role, and that is starting to piss me off.

Look, for my money both Bloom and Dicaprio are actually good actors, but some of their roles (DiCaprio as Alexander and Bloom in this), I just can't 'buy' into it.

On the other hand, it has Ridley behind the camera, and I am a fan of his!

Because they, especially the European armies, are composed of semi-autonomous companies of men-at-arms and mercenaries raised either by local lords or soldier-adventurers, and thus have their own distinct banners to identify them as the detachment raised by the Duke of East Bum-Fuqq.

I gues this means we have an all star cast of Crusading personalities. Should I expect Stephen of Blois, Adhemar de Puis or Fredrick Barbarossa to show up next?
