Anyone ever have a Hard drive just die on them?

I have an 80gig Maxtor drive, I forget how it went bad, exactly, but right now, I plug it in, and the POST doesn't detect it at all.

I have a working hard drive set to primary master, and when I set the broken drive as primary slave, the IDE detection says there's no primary master or slave.

If I remember the crash correctly, I think the FAT got corrupted, but I remember being able to recover some data. However, the response times seemed very slow.

did you check to make sure none of the connectors of cables are damaged?
