Warships of the Ducal Republic of Nowy Krakow (Space Poland)

Post by Thirdfain »

First, the capital ships. From top to bottom:
Wladyslaw Sikorski-class Dreadnought, Tadeusz Kosciuszko-class Dreadnought, Swoboda (Liberty)-class Fast Battleship

Image

Second, the cruisers. Starting second from top, ending second from bottom (other vessels for size comparison)
Szpada (Sword) -class Protected Cruiser, Strzelec (Archer)-class Guided Missile Cruiser, Burza (Storm)- class Fast Cruiser

Image

Finally, the Escorts. Starting second from top, ending at bottom. The battleship is for size comparison.
Blyskawica (Lightning)- class Destroyer, Orzel (Eagle)- class Guided Missile Destroyer, Gdansk (Danzig)- class Frigate, Zbik (Wildcat)- class Escort Frigate.

Image

This is my second experiment in Paint. I feel like the designs improve as they go, with the DNs being the worst. Thoughts?

Interesting looking, will they be fighting Space Cossacks and the distant Empire of Pan Stellar Sweden?

Of course you were. I know better than to think you'd do something like that if it didn't serve your purposes somehow. :P

So, any thoughts on the designs? Critiques? Suggestions? Ships you like in particular? Complaints about my usage of the Polish flag as a major hull decoration?

Well, I have to say Ball turrets that get better barrel elevation and depression would have been better. Seeing as you have massive blind spots in weapons coverage...

WTF are you talking about? The ship can't bear all guns in one direction (With the exception of forewards, in most cases) but they all have full 360 spherical degree coverage by at *least* half their turrets, and the missile pods and torpedo tubes, which are the majority of the firepower, are all pretty much 360 spherical as well.

I'm talking about how yeah, your guns are spaced 90 degrees around and that's dandy and all, but they can't depress so far as to get full 360 degree coverage, especially in close.

How do you stop a Polish tank?

Shoot the people who are pushing it

Any sort of realist space combat takes place at many tens or hundreds of kilometers distant. The blind spots are close enough to the hull that only fighters could get in them, and the ship has complete PP coverage.

Poles in SPAAAAACE!

The potential problem I see is that some of the ships appear to be OGed (Over-gunned). However I don't know what type of weapons the ships mount, or how much power they can generate. If you have answers then it is not a big deal.

The guns are all particle beam cannon. My designs for the weapon mountings are, obviously, based on WW-2 era battleship turrets.

They look like they could fit into the B5 universe. I like the functionality of them and the weapons placements, but the old WWII-style turrets are a little too anime for me. It almost makes it look like the ship is supposed to unlease a broadside on its enemies from inside 500 meters or something... Overall a very competent looking design that says "My ships aren't pretty, but they will kill you."
"Gunslinger indeed. Quick draw, Bob. Quick draw." --Count Chocula

"Unquestionably, Dr. Who is MUCH lighter in tone than WH40K. But then, I could argue the entirety of WWII was much lighter in tone than WH40K." --Broomstick

"This is ridiculous. I look like the Games Workshop version of a Jedi Knight." --Harry Dresden, Changes

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Well I don't know how they compare, but I do know this, they're both working hard to, in a suprising twist of fate, commit genocide against/invade the territory of the space Nazis...
