Old Republic T.I.E. Fighter

Post by DavidVCSAndersen »

As I understand TIE history is as follows:

T.I.E. Fighter - The first Twin Ion Engine fighter introduced during the old Republic.

TIE Fighter - The next generation of this fighter. Enhanced and modified for use in the Imperial Starfleet.

TIE/ln Fighter - The "perfected" version of the TIE Fighter. The common TIE of the line in use after the Battle of Yavin.

But what exactly does the old T.I.E. Fighter of the republic era look like. Is it like one of the following pictures?

Featured at some unofficial star wars fansites and at least 1 unofficial mod-pack for a PC game.

This is seen in "STAR WARS Tales #21". It is only presumed that this is a Republic T.I.E.

Or are all 3 nearly identical?

It looks like an Executor-class vessel, but that can't be it, can it?

An unidentified battleship/star dreadnought. (The events in the story takes place after the Battle of Naboo, so it could be a Mandator serving in a local sector force.)

As for the T.I.E. fighter, I believe it was said to have one cannon, while the TIE and TIE/ln has two.

Hmm, so that would be the Kuat system, right?

Possibly. I first thought it was Coruscant, with the giant city-circles and all, but then I noticed there were no lights of any kind visible on the night-side, so maybe they´re just giant craters. And it looks too blue to be Coruscant (unless it´s a stylistic choice).

I´d say somewhere in the Kuat sector. Especially if this is pre-CW.

I remember mentions about the Sith Fighters in KOTOR to be the first to employ a twin ion engine (the databank on starwars.com maybe?) After playing that game I kept the feeling that that was the inspiration for Imperial TIE's (don't know anything about Republic TIEs, as I don't watch the spoiler thread).
Not all Dacians died at Sarmizegetusa
