This was bugging me and few others back in January before I was called a way with work. I since found a way round the problem of XP never remembering how I wanted my folders viewed.
Go here, save number 2 on the list to your machine and run it (its a registry fix, so don't be scared by any warning box's) and bingo, XP will suddnely remember upto 8,000 individual folder preferences rather than the paltry 200 it has as standard. And if you have more than 8,000 folders you visit regularly you need to organise your HDD better.
