ok, strong contenders would be Capt. Stern (Heavy Metal, Just off the length of the list of charges), Absolom Dakk (He's a pirate in the 40k universe, that eluded the Imperium for 12 years), Harlok (A pirate that overthrew his own universe's governments) & possibly one of the cartels from SW or ST.

I'll throw my vote behind Esmeralda and Harlok, though they're not the greatest pirates, I havn't heard of the other two

James Eldrick - 1800's pirate who was forced through time and space to a distant future where a vast, interuniversal empire is ruled by an entity known only as the Imperator of Zan.

Set in charge of a small raiding force(read: hundreds of thousands of ships) he proceeded to raid and ravage both the Principality of Zan and the Confederation of the Grey Council for a thousand years.

Mother Brain and her Space Pirates. Threatened the entire galatic civilization with her metroids, twice. Samus took her out, but with out her, she would have suceeded. Well, technicially she did, but Samus found out how to kill thim, freezing.
