OK this is Star Wars starship design I started to work on because board was down and didn't have anything else to do.
What do you think?
Any comments or suggestions?
PS. there's very badly drawn Venator for scale.

Alright, well, there's a shitload of command ships out there already-- Allegiances, Venegance, Executor, Eclipse, Sovereign, et al.Lord Revan wrote:a command ship/(Star)cruisers (basically something between a V(en)SD and Mandator SSD).Elheru Aran wrote:What's the function of this ship?
thanks (not that there was any need as it was there just to give my ship a sense of scale, but if I need venators later I think I'll use that.)Firefox wrote:Fixed the Venator for you.
this quite early stage so there's not much hull details yet. At this stage more about the basic hull shape and thing like placement of the engines.Elheru Aran wrote:You'll want some extra texture on the surface. Check out pics of the Sovereign and Allegiance, as yours looks to be about that size-- they'll probably give you some good ideas as to the general design you'll want. Basically, just take cues from the starships we've seen.
Or you could also go with a mini-Executor look-- flat, with a 'cityscape' in the middle with smooth hull around it; while a bit cheesy, it makes much more economic sense, as it's not as fat as Sovereigns, hence less material needed to make it.
Really, it's your ship... feel free to play with it any way you like...
The command ship part comes from the fact that I intend to use it as a Republic flag ship in PSW (and probaly my SW Vs. ST) fic and for the docking bay, I think I'll a regular SD bay (the same that VSDs and ISDs have).Firefox wrote:Why not stick with the Star Cruiser label? As Elheru explained, there are plenty of command ship classes (unless you wanted to, for example, create an apocryphal design for the Mandator).
Also, as has been said, give it a dorsal cortex that is better armored perhaps, and don't add the enormous ventral docking bay. If you want it to service escort ships, go with smaller ports.
I was thinking of Corellian Enginering Corporation as the manufacturer.Firefox wrote:Also, who's the manufacturer? If it's KDY, you may want to follow the Venator's lines. This is the only side elevation of the VenStar that I know of.
It's not set on stone, so it can change (and Admiral Giel's flagship is considered a CEC ship).Firefox wrote:Eh, I'm not sure CEC would be the way to go, since they're not well known for designing capital ships like that. KDY and Rendili are the only two I know of that have designed wedge-shaped vessels, though that alone isn't the only requirement.
What about Rothana, even though they're a KDY subsidiary?
I wasn't aware of Giel's flagship's origin. Thanks for the clarification.Lord Revan wrote:It's not set on stone, so it can change (and Admiral Giel's flagship is considered a CEC ship).Firefox wrote:Eh, I'm not sure CEC would be the way to go, since they're not well known for designing capital ships like that. what do think of the Redesign.Firefox wrote:I wasn't aware of Giel's flagship's origin. Thanks for the clarification.
pretty much, I might try to draw side view.Firefox wrote:I like the direction it's going. I'll need some more views to make a better judgment, though. I take it you're going to stick with the Venator design philosophy?
take half of you top view and draw lines from borders of the structures and then use those lines as a guide to were thing go.Firefox wrote:It looked like the top and side views matched. The hardest part of making such a drawing in MS Paint is making the different views match. I know I've had that hassle with my VSD plans.
