RotS effect on your imagination

Post by Vympel »

Whenever I'd imagine something in a book or whatever to that effect (or those little Star Wars daydreams I'd make up for myself when I was playing etc when I was a kid)- just say it was a space battle, I'd immediately put it in an RotJ context, with those kinds of special effects etc.

Now that we've seen a balls to the wall "modern" space battle in RotS, with all the bells and whistles, do you picture for example Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari cruisers blasting away at each other in a RotS style?

Fuck, I do. Though the space battle was way too short for my tastes, it really got me on side for the RotJ space battle being redone, shot for shot, in RotS style CG ....

I was just imagining what the Vong invasion of Coruscant would look like with RotS special effects.

Awesome. :D

Blah. As pretty as it would look I would cringe at watching the fall of Coruscant, which should never have happened. As good of a read as Star by Star was there was still lots of bullshit to it. Two, I think Vong ships would not provide as much visual appeal as an actual spacecraft.

Addendum:

Vympel i'm in agreement with you, perhaps Lucas should not have done the special editions until after these three movies, so that we could see some great reworking of the space battles eh? Or perhaps in the TV show we'll see some BDZing, CAAMAAS hehehe.

For some reason, I seemed to remember a lot more capital ship combat in ROTJ during its premier cinema run than what was subsequently shown on videos and the SE incarnation since then. This was because I vividly remember doodling scenes of cruisers trading fire with ISDs from angles and positions not seen in the videos and SE, e.g. a cruiser going almost head to head with an ISD but with the Imperial vessel some degrees down of the rebel cruiser so that the rebel ship was firing "downwards" at the Imperial one. I thought it was a figment of my imagination all these years with the videos showing otherwise, but my imagination back when I was 10yrs old couldn't be all that great to imagine/invent new bits like what I doodled.

Basically, I'd give my left nut for 3-5 minutes more of space battle scenes in ROTJ with the capital ships tearing into each other like piglets at a sow's teats. Or at least like the novelisation.
