Does the Jedi Order pre-date the Old Republic?

Post by Guardsman Bass »

Basically, my question is, does the EU literature give any indication of the Jedi Order (or at least its predecessors) antedating the Old Galactic Republic.

No.

The Jedi order was founded as a side effect of the Old Republic.

Basically, all the religions that had miracles with a basis in reality (i.e precog, TK, telepathy, etc), after the founding of the republic, had access to each others knowledge, and started comparing notes and methods to perform miracles, and the Jedi grew out of that over the course of several hundred years
