Connection Issues: Unexpected Disconnections

Post by Exonerate »

Ok, so here's the problem. Basically, about two weeks ago, I started getting unexpected disconnections. I first noticed this when I came home and started up NS and got seemingly random disconnections. As time progressed, it seemed like this was happening periodically. It used to happen only once every 20 minutes or so, but it seems like the time has decreased now to about 12.

I've tried connecting to my modem directly, bypassing my router(s). Unfortunately, I still had these disconnections, which led me to believe it was the DSL modem's problem. It was replaced with an older DSL modem of the same model we had around the house, but the problem persisted. So here are the possible scenarios:
1. Both of the DSL modems are borked. I have no idea why we even had the second DSL modem - chances are we replaced it because it was broken.
2. The problem is with our line/ISP, not the modem. This is a possibility, but one that I am unable to confirm.
3. Worse case scenario of a combination of both.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how this problem could possibly be fixed or diagnosed? I haven't called Verizon for technical support yet, and I suspect even if I did, I'd be delegated to some customer support person who knows less than I do. My network is entirely fiber optic, so no possibility of wireless signals being blocked.

Perhaps your ISP has a line status page on their wesite (mine does). Or you can ask around in your street wether anyone else is having trouble.
