Battlefield 2 (demo), the graphics fucking suck

Ok, so I finaly manged to get the BF2 demo working. Talk about pitiful graphics. These graphics make the original Quake look like a modern platform. The gun graphics are ok, but the blank and complete lack of any model detail on everything else is terrible. The tanks don't even have any god damned detail and show up invisible.

So I patched my copy to run on a Ti-4200. I don't give a flying fuck that EA claims the game wasn't made to run on this card. They should fucking know better.

I have three choices if I want to play BF2 right now.

1: Buy a bargin bin AGP card that can run the game. Problem, these are actualy inferior cards to the Ti-4200 series and my other games will look like shit. I'm not going to sacrafice other games for BF2.

2: Buy a good AGP series card. Problem, new graphics standards use PCI Express and if I upgrade any time soon this shiny new video card is an expensive paper weight.

3: Buy a new high-end graphics card. Problem, I have to do a total fucking upgrade and no game is worth a grand to get to run.

So instead I am going to wait. I am going to upgrade my system when I want to. This means I will be picking up BF2 when its in the bargin bin for $15.

Fuck you EA. Your little stunt on supporting 1.4 shaders and not 1.3 (the difference being negligible in quality yet 700,000 people can play HL2 but not BF thanks to this difference) is costing you a shitload of money.

You want them to keep supporting old cards? Then how do you expect graphic quality to rise?

A 9600Pro is not only bargin bin now days, it WILL kick the crap out of your TI. A 9800Pro should be under 150$, and will ALSO kick the crap out of your TI.
Buying a good graphics card for stuff like BF2 isn't expensive.

They support inferior cards to the Ti-4200 series. My video card is 2 years old and I can't play the game. 3 year old ATI cards with lower graphics capabilities (EXCEPT they use 1.4 shaders as opposed to 1.3) can play the game.

You were saying?

They support the 8xxx line? Then I apologise, but sometimes I wish they would stop supporting stuff like the GF4MX. Its holding games back.
I don't have the link, but Sweeny said working out a hack for non pixel shader cards in the UE2 engine was expensive, both in preformance and in costs.

Supporting Ti-4200 does not need to hold back a game. EA could have spent a handful more dollars and allowed Dice to setup a varried level of graphics so that high-end cards can get the bang for the buck while older cards can still play the game. As it is third party modders are already working on a means to trick the game into using shaders with the Ti-4200 series. And these are a handful of people working on the side and they are showing success.

The BF2 demo looks pretty fine on my machine, but if you're used to Joint Operations, the map is too tiny to be enjoyable for me (what can I say, I love hiding in the high grass, waiting 5 minutes to see a target and snipe him from half a mile off ;))

Haven't had money to buy a new computer (and I'm extremely cheap), or any upgrades (any upgrades I did have were because parts were given to me for free since they were obsolete anyway or because something broke down). Sucks since I do some 3D art, and it bogs down on anything remotely complex.

Really need to find a job... too bad I messed up a bunch of forms when applying before summer, and most entry level positions are filled (well, until late August at least when I would assume a lot of students leave for university).
