This time we are going to the Death Star Trash Compactor!
The Specially Invited Teams
Team Star Wars
Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett
Team TOS
Scotty, Kirk, Spock, Sulu
Team B5
Michael Garibaldi, John Sheridan, Susan Ivanova, Dr. Steven Franklin
Ignore the Psi-Core Member in the picture
The Project
Now first each team is placed in a seperate sealed and sterilized(no Dianogas) Trash Compacting Room on the Death Star. Each room is identically filled with junk from their respective universes. The teams have ten hours to build a machine to break out of the room. After finishing the ten hours they have one hour to get out of the room before it compacts to the point where they will be called as squished and scored as not getting out. the team with the best time wins.

I go for Team SW, they know how these thing work, and I see they trying to come up with some sort of E-WEB device that is so powerful it cuts throught the magnetic seals like a hot vibroblade through Bantha butter

My major problem getting this one set up this was I wanted someplace for Star Trek to host this but could not think of any place that would qualify as a junkyard.

The Star Wars team will build a real plasma cuter that utilizes highpressre airand high viltage and slice their way out. Star Treck will try to buid a plasma conduit to power ther cutter ather than use it to cut the durasteel door.

What kind of equipment are the teams carrying? e.g. is Luke carrying the stormtrooper gear from ANH, the Rebel pilot gear from ESB, or the Jedi outfit from ROTJ?

no, he doesn't have the Lightsaber. There is a Tool Table to build their machine with but if they use them to get out then they are disqualified. The Machine must cut hem out. But if a welder from the table gets built into part of some cutting device that's legalDarth Yoshi wrote:What kind of equipment are the teams carrying? e.g. is Luke carrying the stormtrooper gear from ANH, the Rebel pilot gear from ESB, or the Jedi outfit from ROTJ?

I'm thinking this is a toss-up between the Star Wars team and the Star Trek team. Scotty has a history of building ingenious devices in record time, but the Wars team has more experience with the technology available.

Team TOS takes it!
As much as I love all three of these groups, ultimately I have to go for Team TOS. Here's my thinking:
Team SW: Han and Chewie are good mechanics and I'm sure Boba Fett would make for one hell of a scavenger but if they are stuck with the ANH Luke, his whining would surely doom them - or Boba Fett would just shoot him. While the loss of an extra pair of hands would not prevent them from escaping, the time lost in building will cost them the victory....
Team B5: As much as I love these guys, there is not a capable mechanic between the lot of them, much less an engineer. They are doomed to a very flat existance...
Team TOS: Never a more capable engineer was had than Scotty and with Spock's intellect to assist him, they should be able to find a way to breach the magnetic seal. With Kirk (arguably the luckiest being in the known sci-fi universe) scavenging, he is bound to find just the parts that Scotty and Spock need. If he tears his shirt during his searching, then you KNOW he is going to win despite the odds. Poor Sulu is little more than dead weight - unless the device they build needs to be driven... unfortunately for him, most everything Scotty/Spock did was some variant on the tricorder - the swiss army knife of the Federation..

*shrug* I still think it's a tossup between the two. Can't comment on the B5 team, though.Isolder74 wrote:Read the premise very carefully

Garibaldi is quite resourceful, as is Sheridan but you right no real Engineers here
Yes this team has several good members and would get out but would they get out faster than the othersDaimyo wrote:Team TOS: Never a more capable engineer was had than Scotty and with Spock's intellect to assist him, they should be able to find a way to breach the magnetic seal. Re: Team TOS takes it!
Hmmm, not the Whiny Luke? That makes the race alot closer then as Luke was not a half-bad mechanic (takes after his father?) I think that I'll still have to give it to Team TOS if only because it comes down to the scavenging. Kirk is just luckier than any person has the right to be and I stand by my torn-shirt assessment. Besides, Kirk should be extra motivated knowing Kathy Rogers is on the other side waiting to award him the Junkyard Trophy...Isolder74 wrote:No its not the Winy LukeDaimyo wrote:Team SW: Han and Chewie are good mechanics and I'm sure Boba Fett would make for one hell of a scavenger but if they are stuck with the ANH Luke, his whining would surely doom them - or Boba Fett would just shoot him. Yeah, these guys are resourceful alright but I think the best they could do is prolong the suffering for a few agonizing seconds. Since their death is assured, I want to sub out Ivanova for what's-her-name that replaced her.Isolder74 wrote:Daimyo wrote:Team B5: As much as I love these guys, there is not a capable mechanic between the lot of them, much less an engineer. I think Team SW would ultimately go for a brute-force approach that would be effective enough but would eat up valuable time in the doing.Isolder74 wrote:Yes this team has several good members and would get out but would they get out faster than the othersDaimyo wrote:Team TOS: Never a more capable engineer was had than Scotty and with Spock's intellect to assist him, they should be able to find a way to breach the magnetic seal. Team TOS would probably go for a finesse approach - cobbling together a crude tricorder like device that could emulate the door locking mechanism dropping the magnetic seal as well as opening the door - all thanks to that little scrap of paper that Sanitation Engr Lebowitz threw away with the access codes that Kirk turned up after tearing his shirt after a roll with the trash monster. They would get the door open quickly enough, but knowing them the machine would burn out in the process. If we're only doing a single run, they cinch it. Drop them back in for a second heat and they may as well be red-shirts!

I personally have to go with the SW team. Remember, if Han and Chewie can keep the Falcon running and Boba Fett can keep the Slave-1 in top condition for 30 years, between the three of them they can build anything.

Damn, this hurts me to say it but; the ST team take this. As brillian Han and Chewie are at re-wiring the Falcon, they can't stand up to Scotty and Spock!

Ah, but the victory usually goes to the team with the simplest design. While the bomb/explosive should be easy enough, having to build a shield strong enough to keep the team alive when it goes off would be tricky. They would have to build a shield generator as well as the power source for it in addition to the bomb. Junkyard teams usually have enough trouble getting a working engine in addition to the things they need done in the time alotted. Asking SW to split their efforts 3 ways (Boba on bomb detail, Han/Chewie on shield generator and Luke on power source) would be spreading themselves too thin. If any one of the three tasks did not get completed in the 10 hours, they'd be Bantha fodder!paladin wrote:Not if they build some kind of shield to protect against the blast.Isolder74 wrote:Wouldn't that kill everyone else?paladin wrote:I voted for Team SW. I like Frank's idea about them building a plasma cutter. Two guys on the plasma torch and two getting the power source working. They should be able to complete that with enough time to give it a nice paint job...

Team Star Wars. They're far more likely to be familiar with what makes up the junk and stand a better chance of finding useful technology.
