New Prestige Class for Clerics - D&D

Post by Tokaji Kyoden »

This is one I made up myself, wondering what people think of it. Illustration to come soon.

Martyr/Avatar

The cleric must be devoted to a diety, and must be on a quest from the church of that diety. Not only must he be on the quest, but he must die on the quest, in the service of his diety. The diety, seeing that the cleric had died in great service to it, sends the clerics soul back to the physical plane in the form of an avatar. Spellcraft is also a very important part of the Martyr/Avatars repitoire, so the Cleric must have at least 8 ranks in it.

The Cleric must be wearing medium + armor, must be devoted to a god that is not nuetral. So the Cleric, thus, must be any non-nuetral alignment. The Cleric must have a substantial amount of knowledge in their religion, and arcana(10 ranks in each). Since the Cleric must die and be reborn to become an avatar, he must have a high constitution(18+).

Special Skills, etc.:

A Martyr/Avatar can cast 2+ his caster level Domain Spells per day. A Martyr/Avatar is NOT a cleric, and loses the cleric class. However, since the transformation keeps much of the original personality/memory intact, the Cleric does not lose his cleric caster level, and it is instead added onto his Martyr/Avatar caster level.

Class Features:

The Martyr/Avatar is proficient in all weapons and armor with a few restrictions. They can not change their armor, only enhance the armor they died with. They may not use any magical weapon that has an alignment conflicting with their own.

Spells:

The spells of the Martyr/Avatar are the same as the Cleric, with a few added abilities. A Martyr/Avatar can use the psionic ability teleport once per day.

Drop the psionics add some slowly ramping up damage resistance. Keep in mind Avatar's are the personification of God's, they are NOT push-overs.

Thanks for the advice. The psionics were meant to make them more god-like. Having like mind powers and stuff. This class is already pretty powerful, and I don't want to make it too overwhelming. It may be the personification of a god, but they're still a lower form of divine being.

There's already a prestige class like this. In the Book of Exalted Deeds, there's a prestige class called Risen Martyr.

Really? And you have to die to do it? That kinda sucks, guess my "original idea" wasn't that original.
