Discworld reactions.
Not sure if this is most suited to SLAM or Fantasy, but I'll post it here to give it some credibility.
The scenario is this - an object is detected heading towards the solar system, it is the size of a large-ish planetoid. A conventional telescope is pointed its direction to discover more about it. Close inspection reveals it to be shaped like an enormous turtle with four elephants on its back with something resting on them. It even appears to have a micro-star and moon orbiting it. The scientists refuse to believe what they are seeing and get independant confirmation of it.
How would the world of science react?

I guess scientists immediately start lobbying for funding to send a probe in that direction. The scientists refuse to believe what they are seeing and get independant confirmation of it.
Another question: do scientists release pictures and make Terry Pratchett a zillionaire?
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Don't be silly.
There's no Chelonuim in Roundworld, to say nothing of Narrativium and Elephantium.
And, frankly, how are you going to get the entirety of Great A'Tuin, the four World Elephants, and the disc itself into a universe that's only a foot across* which usually spends its time sitting on a shelf in Rincewind's office?
(* Infinite on the inside)

The Science of Discworld books become the new bible? After all, it were the Discworld wizards that created our universeweemadando wrote:

Hmm, send a manned mission with all of our religious nutjobs and put them on the Disc.
Where they will be promptly smote by the gods, who don't really like whiners.
And get Lord Vetinari to replace GWB, He is one man, he has got the vote, okay?
