Anyone Have Any Experiance With Benztropine Mesylate?

Post by Aaron »

So I've started a new medication thats supposed to make me less anxious and allow me to leave my comfort zone (the computer) without the fear of people trying to kill me or bad things happening to me. The great thing is that it works but it has one horrible side affect: my vision is all blurry.

Everything within 3 feet of me is all blurry but past that it's fine. I called the pharmacist and told me that this should subside within 8-10 days. It's been 10 days today and it still hasn't gone away. So I'm getting kind of scared that this is going to become permanent, and I'll need new glasses.

So I'm hoping that someone else on the board has some experiance with this drug and can tell me how long this sideffect took to disappear for them. The medication again is: Benztropine Mesylate.

It's also called Cogentin. Should have mentioned that in the OP.

I have prescribed it a few times, only in the case of countering the side effects of other drugs normally antipsychotics. Looking at my big of drug brands, benztropine has what are called anticholinergic side effects, of which blurred vision is one of them. Such an effect should be dose related, so I suggest discussing it with the doctor who prescribed it. It may be possible to try playing around with how much you are given.

Did it make your vision blurry? And if so how long did it last?

No, I think he said he's prescribed it to other people, he's a doctor as far as I can remember ;)

I'm taking a pretty low dose, only 1mg twice a day. But I'll be seeing my doctor at end of the month and I'll see what she says. Hopefully it'll be cleared up by then, it's immensly frustrating not being able to see things.
