CityShip Concept-II

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

A long time ago, shortly after I joined, I fished around some of my old
art and posted a picture of a Cityship I had created. Recently, I went
back to my old image, detailed it, added some colour, refined it, and
hopefully made it a bit more pleasing.

Image

Some background on the cityship.

The over all size is about 5miles or 8000+ meters. The ship is largely
made of stone and rock as it utilizes a form of Grav-lev technology that
can rip immense chunks of Earth from a planet into space ((think Spin-
dizzies)). The same technology also acts as an envelope giving an
atmosphere within it.

The ship itself is built as a type of Arc. It was created by a religious cult,
who thought their world was doomed (unfortunately they were right) and
thus left it taking as much art, literature, knowledge and all ‘those sort’ of
things as they could fit.

While the ship is far from a warship, it has shields on-par with those of an
Imperial StarDreadnaught and, if forced, can emit fire from the ‘tips’ of
the ship that could give an ISD’s shield a good thrashing.

The ship itself is powered by a form of matter annihilation mixed with a
‘Force Sucking Matrix’ ((if you think of the energy of the Force, this race
figured out how to tap it like an electrical socket)) In sublight it’s pushed
by an inertialess drive (the blue bulbous pointy things at the back of the
ship)

A few notes. The large tower in the front is the centre of a circular walled
city where the majority of the citizens live. The twin ‘tips’ on the front of
the ship run the length of the ship and connect to the drives in back and
are part of the main Drive system. The single large ‘claw’ directly under
the main tower is part of the Matter/Energy engine and constantly draws
forth energy as well as able to (in emergences) pull in physical matter
for annihilation if emergency power is needed.

Hope you find it nifty, and feel free to make suggestions comments and
criticisms.

Very nice looking, I like the mix of organic and technological design.

Wouldn't the rock have problems with breaking apart if it were to go in and out of the atmosphere? Or does it not do that?

Actually I should really sketch up a quick overhead shot of ship, would
give a better sense of where things are and it's shape.

The Bulb on the bottom of the aft section is actually part of the HyperFold
drive system it uses for Superluminal travel ((it can go at about 50LY an
hour))

As for the Rock, the Grav system it uses has such an intense field that it
can go in and out of gravities up to 6x Earth with impunity ((aka I wiggle
my fingers and say it's all part of the tech))

EDIT:
added topview of ship ((very rough sketch)) shows overall shape as well as engine pylons that run the corse of the ship internally.

city ships usually turn out as a wank fest.
Yours, has not. I like it. the rock gives it a practical look, like

Does it have a space dock, or carrier deck for ship to ship transfers? How do they sustain air, food , and water?

Tech is such that they can recyle and purify air for almost forever. Also
outside the city, the rest of the landmass is covered with native
vegitation that also helps. Plus the over all population is rather small,
under 75,000.

As for a dock, the large, flat, panel thing just in front of the aft 'Bulb' is a
door to a very large open hanger that holds a few ships as well as able to
take in other ships to trade.

So, is there a vegetated area under a dome somewhere? What's the city's population?

Overall population is just under 15,000 aliens. If you goto the top-down
sketch I provided, the 'Circular' part towards the front is a 1mile/1mile
city. The city extends below that into the ship, as well as into the larger
skyscrapers. All the rest of the surface area of the portion is covered
with a mixture of vegatation, trees, and Animal life. A single 'river' runs
across the top from the top of the 'hill' to the bottom and into a small lake.
((The river is in fact a large water recycling/purifcation system that
simply doubles as means for providing water to animal life))

As mentioned in the OP, the same tech that lifts the CityShip up and
through space, creates an airtight bubble that seals in the atmosphear
around the ship. ((This simple bubble is in-turn proctected by the ships
immense deflector-shields))

so is gravity always "down" on the asteroid, meaning the river wraps around, or what?

Nope.

Since the Grav-Tech reduces the affect gravity has with mass to zero, it
reduces the 'weight' of everything inside the bubble to Zero.

You will notice on the original pic a band of 'Aztec Panel' going around it,
separating the top from the bottom. This Band was built around the area
they wished to 'levitate' before the ship was launched. Everything above
that strip has a normal 'down' gravity. Everything bellow it, is in a state
of weightlessness, which, without the gravity band, is what everything
inside the bubble would be.

In truth the ‘River’ emerges from the top of the hill from a massive water
pipe. When it reaches the bottom in the lake, it’s pulled down through a
series of ducts back into the ships water systems.

That's cool, I was just worried about a "waterfall to nowhere" you see on so many floating islands. I like the rock-structure mix. In scifi I do, there are 'roidships (asteroid ships) where they were slowly hollowed out and had engines added for cheap and easy craft.

Are there methods of getting the people off the ship, or are they in trouble in the event of something catastrophic?

Thanks :) I have put a lot of effort into trying to
keep it as realistic as possible without using TOO much technobabble :)
Really, I've tried to make it much more of a real sustainble ship, then
just another 'flying island'

As mentione before, the ship does have a fairly large hanger with other
smaller craft for shutteling purposes. Though considering the city is built
into the ship, if the ship got nuked, they would be screwed.
