Back in 2000 a rather stunning calendar by this title came out and it was for the year 2001. It was filled with 14 incredible images from Star Trek spanning from TOS, TNG, DS9, and VGR. There was some really incredible stuff in there. A great shot of Utopia Planitia and another of Voyager crashing into the ice planet.
Well, in 2001 they released the 2002 calender. This thing fucking sucked. Of 14 pictures, only 3 were any good. The rest of a LOT of artistic CRAP. Lots of motion blur, fog, time acceleration, and other artistic stuff like a single picture just showing a bazilion Work-Bees. I was so disgusted that I returned the thing.
Things have changed? They sure as hell did. I just got the 2003 version of the calender, sorta. Its going to be a christmas present, so I only got to look at the outside of it. On the back they had a "teaser" section showing a partial image of each month. MUCH better looking.
So, anyone else got an opinion on this series?
Oh, and here is something interesting.

Seems the people who are doing this are also comming out with a 150 page book filled with CGI shots of our favorite Trek ships. They even intend on doing a Dominion War chapter, and they claim its got LOTS of weapons fire.
Anyway, I ran across something interesting. Seems the people doing this were involved in Star Trek. They made the somewhat famous scene in VGR Relativity in which we see Utopia Planitia. Well, these same 3d artists have decided they wanted to make this entire book and are doing the calendars. Personally I would give a relatively high level of "offical" rating to this series. These are the people who were part of Trek making and aranging the models we saw in the series. This would make the Utopia Plantia scene in the 2001 calender correct, espeically since we saw in TNG that Utopia has a large Starbase as part of the complex.

I currently have the crap one you mentioned. Good description.
The picture for this month is a speed blured (ack) shot of Voyager (double ack).
I'll be looking for the new one. Earlier in the year the only sci-fi calendars I could find were mostly of characters and not ships or equipment.
You're right, that book does sound interesting.

I had to check three malls and 4 book stores before I found this years (next year) calendar. Seems that the 2002 one sold so badly that not many people are stocking the current one.Tsyroc wrote:I currently have the crap one you mentioned. Good description.

You should look into getting the old 2001 calendar. Sure, its old, but its good. Probably can find it on a collectors site or something for cheap. These are the type you want to keep. I still got my 2001 calendar because the pictures are so damned good.

I checked Borders earlier in the fall but I should probably check there again. That and Barnes and Noble are probably my best bets in town.Alyeska wrote: I had to check three malls and 4 book stores before I found this years (next year) calendar.
