Minor mouse thing: scrolling with left + right

Post by Prozac the Robert »

I've just replaced my laptop's hard drive (along with the ram - thanks everyone who helped me in that thread) and now have a shiney new installation of XP.

One thing is bugging me though. I used to be able to get the scrolling effect you get from pressing the mouse wheel by pressing the left and right mouse buttons together (useful when using the touchpad, since it has no middle button). Now it does nothing. Anyone know how I can turn it back on?

Maybe you need a driver update.

hmm.... might require additional software to re-obtain that functionality. I trust you have OEM software for your laptop, I'd try looking there to see if there's anything for the mouse.

Other than that, check the manufacturer website and see what they've got, might be available for download there.

Other than that I'm at a bit of a loss. I'd suggest calling tech support, but there's no guarantee they'd be able to help, or how much it'd cost you... so consider that your last, last resort.

You probably need to reinstall the mouse software. Follow namdoolb's suggestions.

OK, I'll have another look though the drivers cd tomorrow morning, it's time to sleep now though. Thanks everyone.

Just out of interest, do many computers do the left + right = middle thing? Like I say, it's only really useful with the touch pad, so I've never really thought about it when using other computers.

Before you go digging for drivers, check out the Mouse options in the Control Panel; it may just be disabled by default.

Aha! The touchpad software from the dell website has an option for this. I'm now happy.
