How do I find what router ports are open?

Post by Elheru Aran »

Simple enough question...

I need to ascertain which router ports on the local server are open so I can utilize them to optimize certain Internet processes. I don't want to bother with calling IT support, they're a bunch of incompetents anyway (this is on a school server, btw).

This is mainly for security purposes-- so I can keep an eye on precisely what channels information's coming through to my comp-- and IIRC there are online resources for checking such?

Thanks in advance for your assistance...

Are you on the console of that server?

If so in windows a netstat -an tells you what ports are open on that server,

Not on console. I'm on the PC here. I know my own firewalls are secure, but I want to check on the server/router itself...

The GRC stuff only works if you are on the computer.

Try Languard it allows you to portscan a remote computer, and it is quite useful for a lot of networking tasks.
