Tweeked Shadows vs. the Empire

Just because I'm feeling nasty.

The shadows establish contact with the Culture, and recieve gridfire and trapdoor tech because (insert reason here).

They then proceed to invade the Empire.

gee...you might as well give them effector while you are at it...

with those two tech Shadow can take down not just the SW Empire, but also the Asimove Empire, the Weber 4th Empire, and probably whatever other empire you can think of.......

In the Cultureverse, this universe is a hypersphere, with other, smaller universes inside it, and is itself inside larger universes. All these universes are separated by a region of pure energy called the Grid. Gridfire pulls part of the Grid 'up' or 'down' and deposits it in realspace. Anything in that spot is annihilated. It's very useful as a strategic weapon, but I'm not sure about it's tactical uses.

Trapdoors shunt energy into hyperspace, preventing it from doing damage.

is a trapdoor a full coverage screen that can be maintained at all times?
Can Shadow ships provide the power to utilise these devices effectively?
Will the Empire be able to come up with a countermeasure during the long travel times that Shadow ships would be subject to?
Would the Shadows be able to reverse engineer the technology they have been given, and apply it to different tasks?
How does the Culture go about giving the Shadows the technology? Do they simply hand them a number of units with instructions, set up a manufacturing plant, surgically implant the full background into a Shadow's brain, what?
Inquiring minds want to know!
