I know there are a few people who play TA on the forums, but does any ne use Total Annihilation demo recorder in multiplayer games?

I don't use it to record demos, but I do use it for the built-in macro features as well as the "whiteboard" feature.

I don't have the latest version, so I can't comment on the 3d replayer.

Basically, it records the game so that you can watch it at a later date. Good tool for looking at where you went right or wrong.

The Demo Recorder also includes some interface enhancements, including macro tools which allow you to rapidly place chains of structures, a "whiteboard" which allows you to draw on the map - handy for noting where structures are. Whiteboard markings are also viewable to allies. Also supports chat macros so that at the beginning of the game you can rapidly fire off whatever beginning commands you like (like sharing resources, etc.)

U235, I prefer this version(aka the one I'm working on).

This includes a proper ShareLOS hack, which means your units auto-target stuff your ally can see.

Soon, you'll be able todo that in Skirmish as well!
