The strange death of my mouse port

Post by Lord Rog »

A friend brought their Ipod over yesterday to copy some stuff and when he plugged it in the PC instantly slowed down as it tried to load ITunes and sync with my PC. However after a few minutes the computer froze and I eventually had to reset it. When I reloaded it the mouse refused to move, after trying several other mice I determined that the PS/2 port was now broken (it had been working fine before the IPod was plugged in). I bought a nice new USB optical mouse this morning which works fine however I am still curious as to why this happened and if it is likely that any further damage may have been done to my motherboard. Therefore I am hoping that one of you guys can shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

I bet the port was USB 1. USB 1 hates iPods and vice versa: it's far too slow. Plugging an iPod into such a port will make the puter chunk until you disconnect it, but I've never heard of anything breaking a PS/2 port.

Yeah it was a USB 1 port unfortunately, I really should look at getting a USB 2 card at some point but sadly have a lack of £.

You can get them for about £10 from Scan.
