A Wh40k history question ...

Post by Crom »

I have been reading fluff articles online and I found some on the Battles of Armageddon. Unfortunately the ones I read were incomplete. Does anyone know how the Third Battle of Armageddon ended?

As far as I know a draw, the Orks still hold vast portions of the planet, while the Imperium holds it's main Hive City's there, oit's only a matter of time before Armageddon 4! (Alhtough during the Battle several Human Heroes died, including Commander Tycho who gave in first to the Red Thirst.
From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '

Armageddon ended in an ostensible draw for both sides. The Orks control the countryside and some of the ruined Hive Cities, while Imperial forces control the major surviving cities and the orbitals. Its essentialy a permanent warworld, it would take the Imperium centuries to eradicate the Orks that have now infested Armageddon. Sure they could virus bomb, or cyclonic torpedo the planet but even in its current state Armageddon is to important a planet to just eradicate it.

Capt. Tycho of the Blood Angels did die at Armageddon. He succumbed to the Black Rage( the Red thirst is an entirely diffrent problem for the Sons of Sanguinius) and led the Death Company in the assault on a breach in the Ork defences of Helsreach Hive(I think, I dont have the article in front of me) that broke the defences and allowed much of Helsreach to be retaken. Also, Admiral Parol, commander if the Imperial Fleet at Armageddon is MIA and presumed dead after making a dangerous blind warp jump in an attempt to destroy the Ork "telleyporta" Hulk(The Orks , in a feat of organization prevoiusly thought impossible for Orks, were using an advanced long range teleport system to transport fresh forces and supplies from the outer system to the surface of Armageddon, bypassing Imperial anti-shipping patrols completly) that was commanded by the genius Mekboy Warlord "Orkimedes"

Thanks for the information. The Third Battle was one I found particularly engrossing.

Do you have any links to sites that might have the history of the battles posted?

Your best source is the Armageddon mini-codex, its only 10 bucks and details the first half of the campaign very nicely, the conclusion articles you would be best served to call GW Mail order and have them find the back issues of White Dwarf for you. Ive yet to find any of them on-line , but then I have the mags, so no need.
