Data vs Guri
How would they match up against each other in a hand to hand fight, or separately in terms of capabilities?
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?

I'm pretty sure she's not an assassin 'bot, but a sex one. It seemed heavily implied, at least. But she is sickeningly combat capable, while Data is.. Well.. He's got brute force but zero finesse.

Indeed, she is expressly designed to kill with her bare hands, and does so quite proficently.Stark wrote:Isn't Guri a SW-level assassin droid? How is this fair?

And as for your second statement, doesn't that go without saying? I mean, it is you; it would be more informative if you pointed out things you actually liked. "Hate" is an assumed default.

Ok, I break down. How do Mandalorians feature into this?Stark wrote:Isn't Guri a SW-level assassin droid? How is this fair?

That being said, while Data is stronger and more resilient than your baseline human I'm not sure he's up to dealing with a Warstech HRD.

Prince Xizor's humanoid assassin droid, from "Shadows of the Empire". She's specifically designed for hand-to-hand combat and comes from a vastly superior civilization, so I'd lean towards giving it to her. I don't know any hard data about her relative strength and speed offhand, however.bilateralrope wrote:Whos Guri ?

She demonstrated she can take on a Luke at pre-RoTJ but at a point where the only reason he won was pre-cognitive abilities.
She also demonstrated, she could disarm a person who had a blaster on her. Her physical capabilites are enough she can punch of a hole into SW level concrete.
Data has a bit of an uphill climb against him.

Well, the only references to Guri I'd ever read was in regard to it's insane ability to kill people, so I figured that's what it did. Better than the slow kung-fu Data has, and Data isn't very well shielded.
Hey OP guy - are they armed? Data usually has a phaser, and Guri doubtless has all kinds of guns. It could be wrestling, I guess.
And Mandalorians are in the sig, right there. I didn't want a one-line post.... and I really do hate Mandalorians. If I wanted a walking, talking example of why the EU is a hat full of shit, I'd get a Mandalorian. Ire, I only *mention* things I hate when it's a significant, higher-than-average 'hate'. Things I like are much further the other way, you see?

while Data is fast, strong, and has decent reflexes Guri has these and is designed for various forms of combat. Data may last a little while, but he's goin down

I will note, Ire, that that's a model along the lines of the photos they have of Mara Jade, Talon Karrde, and Corran Horn.
Though to be fair, *all* the canon illustrations of Guri vary rather considerably...
And Guri's primary purpose was to masquerade as a human; her classification as a 'human replica droid' makes that obvious. The assassination part came after the fact with her employment by Xizor.

Yeah, that worked so well against most Jedi [who were'nt under the shroud of the dark side] .Darth Wong wrote:Who gives a fuck? I hate character vs character H2H contests. Actually he mainly used increased speed and strength, though pre-cog was partially a factor. She demonstrated she can take on a Luke at pre-RoTJ but at a point where the only reason he won was pre-cognitive abilities.
Before immersing himself full in the force [And "Speeding up"] she was beating him easily and casually.
Query: When did that happen, Master? Her physical capabilites are enough she can punch of a hole into SW level concrete.
Statement: The repliform mechancial has indeed a far higher level of personal skill (Note: Especially as opposed to the android which has no skill worth mentioning, only brute speed and strength).
Conclusion: The Repli-droid known as "Guri" would indeed win and quite handily master.
Personal note: I could kill them both with a DL-tech H93 ion rifle from 5 kilometers away, Master?....
Sarcastic comment: Foolish Replidroid, your lose was inevitable due to the slushing of your meatbag like form.

That said, I'd probably give Guri the win. Data CAN fight, but it's far from his primary purpose. Meanwhile, Guri could out-match anything up to a Jedi, and nearly won THAT one as well. Not to mention that Data might even choke in combat, depending on when we take him(I'm thinking specifically of Generations, but I find it difficult to believe that's the only example).
Of course, whoever wins, HK comes in and kills the winner with his Awesomeness Wave. Everybody wins....

Data is hard to quantify--put Guri's personality in his body and he'd fair better, but most likely he won't fight very intelligently.
He can learn any combat technique quickly, but has obviously chosen not to, so we see how he feels about fighting
So far Guri has gestalt abilities offered, I can do the same for Data, although I cannot promise he'll use them
According to dialog he is at least 10 times as strong as a mature human male, and seems faster even than that--although he has yet to use this in combat. Watch "Hero Worship" to get an idea of what I mean: he moves both arms at the shoulders (proving he can move his entire arm at speed, not just his fingers) independently so as to build a wooden block building in the space of seconds.
He has casually tossed grown men 6 or 7 meters across a shuttle bay in "The Most Toys" with a single arm, casually lifted a full size blacksmith anvil, rapidly chucked (I use the word carefully) rocks the size of your head, your torso, and larger in "Hide and Q" and he smashed a structure in the warp core containing plasma coolent in "First Contact." Also watch him in "Arsenal of Freedom" toss Yar with one hand to get her out of the line of fire. Also in that episode he lands an 11 meter drop without a problem. In First Contact he may or may not have landed a much longer drop... (really hard to scale that event). He has bent a very thick bar of exotic future alloy in "The Measure of a Man" and pinched a handgun barrel closed with his thumb and forefinger in "The Big Goodbye." There are other examples, but this will give a gestalt idea of his strength, and his speed perhaps. Numbers can be given, but I do not have time today, or tomorrow to do so.
For toughness, he is not so good against pointy things, but can take the best a Borg drone can give in "Descent Part I" and thinks nothing of being tossed accross a cargo bay in "Datalore" (ok, so Lore was tossed... they have the same chassis). In a holodeck episode I have forgotten he somehow deals with a speeding taxi cab, and later holds it in place--although the circumstances of this event are possibly fishy.

I vaguely recall this episode. IIRC, Data was kneeling in the street manipulating some cables via a manhole (or some such). The cab came around the corner and tried to run him over. He stopped it with one hand while still manipulating the cables with the other. It was evident, however, that he couldn't maintain the hold and that if he hadn't gotten what he needed to do done, he would have been run over. Note also that this was a 1930s-era Taxi (again, IIRC), and so it has limited power. The Silence and I wrote:In a holodeck episode I have forgotten he somehow deals with a speeding taxi cab, and later holds it in place--although the circumstances of this event are possibly fishy.

He got his head knocked off once. He's designed to be disassembled, repaired, and put back together. Data is designed more similarly to a robot, while Guri is more like a cyborg. They're both androids, but one is supple and fast and the other is mechanical and strong. The real problem here is that Data is not a hand-to-hand combatant. If this was a boxing match, it'd be Data by knockout in 2 seconds. Guri's strength is superhuman, but Data's is just ridiculous. Her speed is great, but Data can move his hands in a blur if the storyline demands it. But Data is not that great of a combatant, and seeing as Guri has a high fraction of his physical attributes but is much more comfortable operating in a wider range of motion, I find it unlikely she'd play nice for long, and strength and speed isn't as important in a hand-to-hand fight as skill. Guri certainly has that!Vicious wrote:I vaguely recall this episode. IIRC, Data was kneeling in the street manipulating some cables via a manhole (or some such). So I'd say that Guri's strength are not her biggest advantages. She's a trained killer who specializes in hand-to-hand combat. Data is mechanically powerful to a ridiculous degree, but is not made of armor plating, so I believe this fight will last only as long as he can stop Guri from pulling his head or arms off. It would be a good fight if we let Data train in martial arts for a long while, but that's not the situation, so I'm giving it to Guri. I always vote for skill over muscle.
