Thunderbird problems

Post by haas mark »

...I think maybe I should've stuck with Outlook, first off.

Anyway.

I'm having some weird issues with Thunderbird.

First of all, for the messages I don't have filters for, sometimes if I shut down Thunderbird and open it again, it randomly decides I can't see said messages. They don't show up in my searches. They don't show in the folder. For all intents and purposes, they don't exist... and then they magically appear later. Wtf?

Secondly, sometimes I'll get an error that essentially tells me (if I'm trying to move/delete a message) that it's being used by another process (when I'm not DOING anything else)... sometimes this will happen when I first open Thunderbird.

Third, for said messages, if I try to open them - they open, but there is nothing IN the message. Even for the messages I KNOW should have something in them.

Any ideas what's going on/what to do?

Uninstall and reinstall the latest version. I've never seen behavior like that, and I've been using it for about as long as it has been available.

I'd try running Thunderbird in safe mode to see if an extenstion or theme is causing a problem. When I upgraded from .5 to 1.5 I had to get rid of the theme I was using because it was causing an issue like that - blank messages, but no magically moving messages.

After that, I wouldn't know.

I actually have no themes or extensions, other than on Firefox itself, and it worked after I installed this theme, too. =\ Shall try the un/reinstallation, then.

If I do un/reinstall, though, will it get rid of all the messages that are in Thunderbird now?

Uninstalling Thunderbird only removes the program not the files buried in Documents and Settings.

Update:

Uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird did not help. This is the error I get several times upon opening:

The folder is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages.

Forthcoming screencap of my inbox to show wtf the problem looks like, too.

[ EDIT ] May have gotten the problem fixed. Mysterious disappearing/non-moving e-mails have been deleted, and now can receive e-mails. Possible that it was because I told it to download for 5 e-mails upon opening. I'm an idjit sometimes.
