Fundy debate with my friend

One of my friends is confused about what she should believe in. After flattening her in a debate about atheism vs. christianity by pointing out damning verses from the bible, she now is wondering whether God really loves her or not. Anybody have a similar experience, other than Darth Wong?

Tell her the feeling of desperation will pass and she will eventually come to see all that's wrong with the religous world and christian fundemental beliefs.

We're both deaf but we can communicate to each other using American Sign Language. There IS a "teleevangelist" tone in ASL, IIRC.

Actually, you're suppost to pretend your grasping a collection plate, and wave it around as to ask for donations. You then put you hand on someone's head, look up, and starting shouting "Praise Jeeeesus!". Shake your body, start dancing, and repeat the collection plate motion as necessary.

To get back on the subject here, I'd say simply explain your position, but remind her that ultimately it's her life, and she needs to come to her own conclusions. Tell her that while you may think less of her if she goes down the religious path, you won't care about her any less. That is really the only thing you can do.

Agreed. Having everything you believed in challenged can be frightening. She'll need a friend whom she can trust will still be there for her no matter what she decides.

That said, you tell her that if she feels being religious is the path for her you'll support her decision, whether or not you approve of it. After all, it's her life to live.

She hasn't answered in a long time. BTW, she admitted to me that she chose christianity because her parents were fundies and she trusted them. Sounds a bit like clinging.

Tell her to follow what her heart tells her. If she really, truly believes in God, then she should remain a Christian or whatever she wants. If, when she seriously thinks about it, has doubts, then she should probably just admit that she really doesn't believe.

That's what happened to me. Every time some moron told me Judgment Day was nigh, I'd try to imagine what would happen, and then tell myself, "Judgment Day won't be tomorrow, or the next day or the day after that. That's because Judgment Day is a fantasy, and it will never happen."
